Hey Med Fam,

As time goes on, my bank of witty tag lines is being depleted and have therefore resorted to Star Wars references. The month of May is upon us and I would like to wish everyone a new wave of energy and motivation for the last push before summer.

In other news, a large delegation from McGill is currently in Winnipeg representing your interests at the Spring General Meeting of the CFMS. We are proud to say that we are one of the largest groups representing their school and have a lot of #McGillPride at the moment. Look out for a report from your lovely VP External Canada, Lucy Luo, keeping you up to date on all the happenings.

Finally, Spring Recruitment applications for standing committees and student groups will be open until May 14th at midnight. Don't forget to check out our Recruitment Page.

Have a great week,

Natasha Caminsky, MSS VP Internal 2016-2017

Immortalizing the Mortal: Art In the Service of Death

MSS Clubs

The meaning we give objects has an important basis in both culture and our direct experience with them. Thus, meaning may vary between individuals and at different times: we could just as easily be in a Shrine instead of a Museum, paying respect to the remains of those who suffered instead of using them to learn about disease. By corollary, depending on one's point of view an object may have more than one meaning, or level of understanding, at the same time.

The task proposed to the students who participated in this project was to consider another aspect of a skeleton mounted in 1935 at the McGill Maude Abbott Medical Museum. Their goal was to express in art - poetry, sketch, photography, or any other medium - a meaning to these bones other than the medical aspect implied in the writing of James Paget and the work of the McGill museologists - to tell their story and clothe them with flesh.

You are cordially invited to an exhibition of the artworks on Thursday, May 4, from 5-6:30pm in the Medical Museum, Strathcona Anatomy and Dentistry Building (3640 University Ave.), Room 2/38E. Please RSVP to to help us prepare refreshments. We hope to see you there!

Looking for English native speakers!

Other (Non Medical)

For my master’s thesis, I’m studying how native English speakers and native French speakers think and talk about events in their environment. I am currently looking for English speakers to participate in this study. The session will consist of a questionnaire, a narrative task and a descriptive task. It will last approximately 30 minutes and will take place at McGill or UQAM. All participants will receive a ticket for a boardgaming evening at the boardgame café La Récréation (404 Ontario E, H2L 1N6) and will have the chance to win a 25$ gift certificate at La Récréation.

To be eligible for the study, participants must:
• be aged between 18 and 40 years old
• be native English speakers (from Canada, USA, Australia, England, etc.)
• speak only English (no second language including French)
• have no visual or auditory handicap (except for the loss of visual acuity corrected by glasses or contact lenses).

If you are interested to participate, please send an email to or, or call me at 514-915-2504.

Room for Rent

I have to leave behind my super sweet place on de Maisonneuve literally right across the street from the Glen.
It's a 2-storey apartment, and on the main floor there's a beautiful kitchen with a balcony, a huge bathroom with standing shower, jacuzzi tub and washer/dryer, a room that's currently my office but could be a dining room, a nice and bright living room, and one bedroom. The upstairs is a kind of loft area which is also gigantic, with its own bathroom with a tub, but no shower. There's also a big attic area for storage.
My brother's moving into the bedroom on the main floor so I'm looking for someone to take the loft area upstairs. He's a JMSB student and a pretty cool guy, and your landlords would be the nicest, most helpful and most reasonable people in the world (my parents).
We're asking $650 plus half of the utilities. The shared spaces are furnished, and there's the possibility of your bedroom being furnished too. If you're interested, know someone who might be, or want to come see it, let me know!
