Hello people of Medicine,

For this week's subject line I turned to our faithful sister language because I don't believe there's an Engligh equivalent. That's right folks, there's fewer than 10 items in this week's newsletter! "What I (relatively) quick read!" you must be thinking.

MSS Elections are in full swing with the nomination period for unopposed and empty positions open until 9PM tonight. Please see the MSS Communiqué for more details. For general information about the MSS Elections, click here.

That's all folks. Have a great week!

Natasha Caminsky, MSS VP Internal 2016-2017

Between Healer and Artist - Wed. April 5

MSS Clubs

Dr. Guzder is a member of the McGill psychiatry community and will share experiences that span her multi-faceted career as psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, researcher, and artist. Her professional accomplishments include: co-founding the Cultural Consultation Service, developing a fellowship program for family therapy, and supporting training in cultural competence and advancing it by integrating a global health perspective that is informed by interdisciplinary approaches. As an artist, Dr. Guzder’s work has been displayed nationally and internationally in several shows. In Dr. Guzder’s words, reflecting the tension and mutual creativity between the multiple spheres of her work: “I have always felt both divided and integrated in my work as a healer and my work as an artist.”

On Wed. April 5 at 6pm in Thomson House room 403, Dr. Guzder will be speaking upon her team projects in global health involving work that has been long-standing in India, Nepal, and, since 2005, in Jamaica. Her team’s work has involved a series of grant- and evidence-based work with children aged 8-12 years considered at high-risk for becoming implicated in cycles of violence, in response to a public health agenda as Jamaica has the fourth highest homicide rate in the world. In a second section of her presentation, she will share images of her artwork and reflections upon her artistic process. Her presentation will be combined with lots of time for questions, discussion, and interaction.

· Strengthen the quality of your presence
· Deepen your ability to listen to yourself and others
· Sharpen your reading of body language and emotions
· Explore playful and fun approaches in relating to a patient
· Discover joy as an instigator of action and care-giving

And to explore :
• Playful and fun approaches in relating to a patient
• Joy as an instigator of action and caregiving

This formation is taught by practitioners and trainers from the Jovia Foundation and is specific to the patient/caregiver relationship. Mock National Assembly Workshop

MSS Clubs

Interested in learning how health policy is made? Join the GAAC and the QMA Student Committee in our first ever joint interactive workshop on Health Policy: a mock National Assembly where the addition of "Accessory fees" are up for debate.

Students can attend as PARTICIPANTS (LIMITED SEATS) or as OBSERVERS: Observers will be welcome to attend the presentations, presented by Mr. Julien Labrosse, Minister in the most recent Parlement Jeunesse du Québec. Participants will be actively engaged in the "hands-on" portion of the event-- the debate! You'll assume the position of a Member of the National Assembly and debate your points, adapting as studies and news stories are revealed. Participants will be given a "personality" to keep the debate exciting! (You'll have two brief, easy-to-read documents (1-2pg) to prepare you for the debate.)
