Hello everyone, bonjour à tous! Dear members of the MSS, my name is Adam Hassan, and I am delighted to announce my candidacy for MSS Executive President. First off, I would like to congratulate Amanda, Josue and the rest of the MSS Executive teams from both MTL and CO for the tremendous work they’ve done over the past year. The first year of medical school thus far has been a great experience and I’ve learned a lot both inside and outside of the classroom. I hope to be able to use these experiences for the betterment of the student experience for all MSS members across the 4 years of medical school. 

ABOUT ME: I am born and raised in Montreal and grew up speaking both English and French. I completed my B.Sc. and Ph.D. in Microbiology & Immunology (MIMM) here at McGill. I highly value the importance of student government and its potential to improve student affairs. I’ve held several student government positions over the course of my undergraduate and graduate studies, but the most relevant and recent is my current tenure as Med-1 Class President. All these experiences have taught me a lot about student governance and have allowed me to interact much with professors and admin staff of the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences. I hope to utilize all my resources and experiences to best represent you as MSS Executive President.

My platform can be summarized with the following three points: representation, transparency, and involvement. 

REPRESENTATION

As President, it will be part of my mandate to ensure proper representation of the student voice when meeting with members of the faculty and administration. I hope to amplify your voices and make sure that MSS members feel not only heard but properly listened to. Together with other members of the executive council, I would suggest increased feedback from the student body so that the MSS can best address the needs of its members. Additionally, when representing McGill Med at provincial and national meetings, I would make sure to learn more about the different medical programs and to see what could be integrated here. As an advocate for student interests along with fellow council members, I also hope to continue the good work of the current MSS President, Amanda Morrone, and promote more EDI activities and training. 

TRANSPARENCY

As President, I hope to increase transparency of all MSS actions so that MSS members can be well aware of what it is the MSS does for them. This could be done using social media campaigns and/or bi-annual emails giving students an update on the work performed by executive and class council members. Reports such as these could paint a clearer picture for students as to what it is that the MSS does for them and also increase participation in MSS activities.  

INVOLVEMENT

As President, I hope to increase the level of involvement by the student body in MSS activities and for MSS members to have a better understanding of what it is the MSS can do for them as mentioned in the previous point. I also hope to increase collaboration between the different class councils and the MSS as well as promote events that include students from all four years. The class councils do a tremendous job advocating for and supporting their cohorts. Joint events between cohorts could help create bonds that go beyond those made within a class and allow for students to get to know and learn from a larger number of people.

  1. Student Voice: I will seek out YOUR opinion and prioritize your preferences in order to run events that fulfill YOUR needs and will make myself available to receive your feedback and concerns.
  2. Advocacy: Alongside fellow MSS members, I hope to integrate your feedback into actionable changes, whether that be academic policy changes, better gift cards for lunch conferences, or anything in between!
  3. Academic Resources: My goal is to continue facilitating the distribution and provision of our existing academic resources and educational tools, like Toronto Notes and stethoscopes. At the same time, I aim to expand our offerings by exploring options to provide other items you may want, making them more readily available at discounted prices.

Hi everyone, my name is Mark and I am excited to announce my candidacy for the MSS Executive Vice-President (VP) & Corporate Affairs for the upcoming academic year! If elected, I aim to establish a strong working relationship with the Executive President and collaborate closely with them and the rest of the MSS council to achieve our student-centered objectives.

Sponsor relations: one of my priorities will be to maintain good relations with our current sponsors, and I plan to continue the great efforts of our past and current Executive VP & Corporate Affairs in organizing lunch conferences and timely communication with sponsors. With the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, I will explore the possibility of holding in-person lunch conferences if there is mutual interest from our sponsors and members but will advocate to keep them online if that is preferred by students.

Academic resources: I will hope to continue facilitating discounts and supplying academic resources and educational tools, such as the Toronto Notes and stethoscopes, and explore the possibility of broadening the resources and tools offered to us by looking into discounting of scrubs. Again, this is where I’ll be turning to your feedback and looking into the resources that YOU want.

Student Voice: regarding elections and General Assemblies, I believe that these events are a major way for students to voice their opinions, and I will prioritize the execution of these events. I will work closely with fellow MSS General Council colleagues and ensure that elections are conducted according to a democratic process that follows a consistent structure and that every student has a chance to voice their opinions and concerns at the general assemblies.

Approachability: As Executive Vice-President and Corporate Affairs, I hope to be someone that you can approach at mcmed, in the hospitals or virtually. Whether you have ideas to share, issues to raise, or simply require some guidance, I will be there for you when you need me.

Advocacy: I want every medical student to feel heard, represented, and included. If elected, I will work with the Executive President to advocate for your needs and survey your opinions. Based on feedback, I will push for more useful gifts (from sponsors), fun social events, and off-campus study spaces. During my undergrad, I served as medicine senator for two years at Western University where I advocated for the academic needs of students in the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry. Through this role, I learned how to organize initiatives, such as lobbying for different academic policies that came directly from student feedback. I believe this experience will be beneficial in terms of translating your feedback and concerns into actionable changes, whether it be an academic policy or better lunch conference gift cards.

Hello to all McGill Medical Students! My name is Jonathan Elkaim (he/him), and I am super grateful to be in the running for MSS Secretary. 

Before I get into my platform, I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself. I am a Montrealer born and raised, and I grew up speaking both English and French. Fun fact: my main pastime and potential alternative career if medical school happens to not work out has always been dance. Furthermore, I gained a huge appreciation for community involvement and student advocacy during my time at Vanier College where I sat on two committees and was the acting Co-President of a still thriving dance club. Those closest to me will, at first, probably tell you how I walk a little too fast for them or maybe how I’ve failed to watch/read Harry Potter (I’m sorry…), but I trust that they’ll eventually also highlight my kind-hearted and hardworking nature as well as my passion for all things regarding school and learning.

As your MSS Secretary, I will ensure to prioritize the following throughout my mandate:

  1. Streamlining Administrative Tasks: 

A major player in unlocking the full potential of the MSS is internal efficiency and organization. I plan to ensure proper organization of all meeting minutes and other official documents related to the MSS using my magical document editing skills. I will also continuously find ways to improve the methods we use to perform our administrative tasks mainly by searching for and introducing new applications which will help increase efficiency in performing these tasks. I believe that utilizing the vast amounts of technology at our disposal can be widely beneficial to our committee.

  1. Improving Communication: 

Medical students already have a lot on their plate and being bombarded with email after email does not help. As MSS secretary, I plan to make regularly scheduled weekly updates that contain all the necessary information in a clear and concise fashion. In addition, I will create a shared calendar to allow for easier scheduling and easier dissemination of information pertaining to scheduling. Furthermore, a top priority of mine will be to create open lines of communication with all council members in order to ensure that they feel comfortable turning to me with whatever they may need.

  1. Accessibility: 

It is absolutely imperative that all members of the MSS are able to access the council’s important documents and resources. In light of this, I plan to make the minutes and all relevant documents available to all constituents of the MSS in a timely and efficient manner such that everyone can access them without barriers. Furthermore, I will make sure to select only universally accessible venues for all in-person and virtual General Council meetings to encourage wider participation of all members.

Hello everyone, my name is Jimin and I am very excited to announce that I am running for the position of MSS VP External Canada for the 2023-2024 academic year! 

A little bit about me — I was born in Seoul, South Korea and moved to Montreal when I was 10. I grew up in this beautiful city and province and completed my BSc and MSc at McGill University as well. In my free time, I love to explore the city and try new coffee shops. I enjoy going out and spending quality time with my friends. I also enjoy learning new skills, so I am currently learning Spanish for fun. During this academic year (2022-2023), I have the great pleasure of serving as the class representative within the med-1 class council. Within the past years, I have also had the pleasure of serving as an executive member in various student associations and student clubs such as GSAN (Graduate Student’s Association for Neuroscience) as well as Stronger Than Stigma McGill. My recent experience of attending the 72nd General Assembly of IFMSA (International Federation of Medical Students Associations) truly strengthened my passion for medical education, advocacy, and health equity promotion across Canada, hence why I am running for the position of VP External Canada. In the near future, I hope to be able to contribute to bringing more exciting opportunities for involvements and networking to you. 

If I get elected, I want to ensure few points:

As VP External Canada, I will act as liaison between MSS (representing all of you) and CFMS (Canadian Federation of Medical Students) as well as other organizations outside of Quebec. I will actively participate in the discussions of the roundtables with student representatives from other medical schools. I promise to share pertinent information on various discussions/changes/decisions that are being made by and with CFMS and external organizations to you in a prompt manner. I will also ensure to actively share rising opportunities for involvements within these associations.

Additionally, I will ensure to share and represent your interests, concerns and suggestions at the national level and advocate for continuous actions that foster a safer, healthier, and inclusive environment for us all. To do so, I will remain open to suggestions and discussions, and have an anonymous feedback form available to students so that they can raise concerns and provide opinions at any point of the academic year. 

Finally, I will advocate for increased resources and propose new ideas to benefit our student community and student engagements such as discounts, networking and collaboration opportunities, and workshops that are pertinent for medical school and residency applications/completion.

Hi there!  

My name is Sirine Guetiti, I am a second-year medical student from the Montreal campus. Having  had the pleasure of working with many of you last year, I am thrilled to announce that I am once  again running to become your next MSS Vice-President External Quebec!  

Just to get to know me a little bit better, I completed my undergraduate studies in kinesiology at  UQÀM in 2020. I have a Tunisian background, but I’ve lived in Montreal for 21 years, which  means I have a deep love for poutine, bagels, and speaking French! When I’m not busy studying,  I enjoy trying out new restaurants and exploring the city’s hidden gems with friends.  

Studying at McGill has been a great challenge so far, and I would like to keep pushing my  boundaries and getting out of my comfort zone by taking more responsibilities as a third-year  medical student (what can I say, I work better under a lot of pressure hahaha).  

De ce fait, comment est-ce que JE prévois amener de l’avant les intérêts de McGill auprès de la  Fédération Médicale Étudiante du Québec (FMEQ) et des autres institutions universitaires  médicales du Québec ?  

1. Effective communication: As the former VP External Quebec, I have shown a strong  dedication to informing the student community about important issues that arose during  our frequent engagements within the FMEQ. Moving forward, I aim to maintain my role  as a trustworthy intermediary between McGill medical students, the FMEQ, and the other  medical societies across Quebec. This will allow for effective communication and  collaboration between all parties involved. 

2. Advocating for medical students’ interests at the provincial level: As medical students, we  are all too familiar with the challenges that come with our rigorous training. As Vice  President External Quebec, I will work closely with the other medical student societies  across the province to advocate for issues that affect us all. This includes promoting mental  health and wellness among medical students.  

3. Promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion: I am committed to promoting equity, diversity,  and inclusion within the medical community. As Vice President External Quebec, I will  work to ensure that medical students from all backgrounds feel valued and included. This  includes promoting increasing representation of underrepresented groups in leadership  positions and advocating for policies that promote equity, diversity, and inclusion.  

I hope this platform has helped to demonstrate my commitment and dedication to the position of  Vice-President External Quebec for the MSS. I am eager to continue serving our community and  advocating for the needs of medical students across the province.

Hi everyone! My name is Sarah Petrecca (Med-1), and I am very excited to be running for MSS VP Finance. 

A little about me! I have lived in Montreal my entire life even though most of my family is from Niagara Falls. I am the eldest of 3 and I played competitive tennis for 14 years! My favourite food is pasta but recently ramen has stolen my heart (and stomach). 

Now onto to the more serious stuff! I completed my B.Sc. in Anatomy and Cell Biology and my M.Sc. in Experimental Medicine here at McGill. Throughout my time as an undergraduate and graduate student, I have been involved in many leadership roles and have learned valuable skills that have prepared me for this role. Specifically, I was the treasurer for the McGill Tennis Team and the Goodman Cancer Institute’s Students’ Society. I was also the VP of Communications for the Anatomy and Cell Biology Students’ Society. More recently, I was elected Med-1 Treasurer and organized the famous Patagonia sale which had not been held in a few years due to it being a logistical and expensive nightmare. This event was a huge success. 

From these experiences, I have learned how to negotiate sale prices with vendors, how to allocate money to different initiatives and how to create a realistic budget. I am organized, reliable, attentive, and care for the well-being of our student body (and their finances). These are skills that will serve me well as MSS VP Finance.

Most importantly – my platform! It is no secret that Covid has had a very large impact on the way the MSS can spend money. Inflation is at an all-time high and therefore things cost a lot more. We need to be strategic in our spending. Do not worry – this does not mean the MSS can’t support the organization of fun activities or even new initiatives! This is where my plan comes in. If elected MSS VP Finance, I will revamp the MSS budget to consider the inflation our economy has been affected by. In addition to doing this, I will support the VP External in securing sponsorships that will be useful for all MSS students and will work with the VP Socials to organize events that are fun for all, while being financially responsible. 

Moreover, Covid has affected our finances, but it has also affected the kinds of activities students are interested in. Initiatives that were very popular a few years back may not be anymore, and new ideas need to be supported! This is why in the months prior to my presentation of the final MSS budget, I will hold weekly office hours in which students from all medical classes can meet with me to discuss new initiatives they wish to have funded by the MSS. These will go through a review process, and if beneficial, will be part of the reformed budget. So, if you have any fun ideas, please reach out to me when the time comes! 

Overall, my goal is to create a budget that is representative of student interests and reflective of the current times we are in.

Salut tout le monde! Je m’appelle Sarah Petrecca (Med-1) et je suis très heureuse de me présenter pour la position VP Finances de MSS.

À propos de moi! J’ai vécu à Montréal toute ma vie même si la plupart de ma famille est originaire de Niagara Falls. Je suis l’aîné de 3 enfants et j’ai joué au tennis compétitif pendant 14 ans! Mon plat préféré est les pâtes, mais récemment, les ramen ont volé mon cœur (et mon estomac).

Passons maintenant aux choses plus sérieuses ! J’ai terminé mon B.Sc. en Anatomie et Biologie Cellulaire et mon M.Sc. en Médecine Expérimentale ici à McGill. Tout au long de mes études de premier cycle et des cycles supérieurs, j’ai été impliqué dans de nombreux rôles de leadership et j’ai acquis des compétences précieuses qui m’ont préparé à ce rôle. Plus précisément, j’ai été trésorière de l’équipe de tennis de McGill et de la Société des étudiants de l’Institut du cancer Goodman. J’ai également été vice-présidente des communications pour l’Association des étudiants en anatomie et biologie cellulaire. Plus récemment, j’ai été élu trésorière de la classe Med-1 et j’ai organisé la célèbre vente Patagonia qui n’avait pas eu lieu depuis quelques années car c’était un cauchemar logistique et coûteux. Cet événement a été un immense succès.

De ces expériences, j’ai appris comment négocier les prix de vente avec les vendeurs, comment allouer de l’argent à différentes initiatives et comment créer un budget réaliste. Je suis organisée, fiable, à l’écoute et soucieuse du bien-être de nos étudiants (et de leurs finances). Ce sont des compétences qui me seront très utiles en tant que VP Finances de MSS.

Le plus important – ma plateforme ! Ce n’est pas un secret que la Covid a eu un impact très important sur la façon dont le MSS peut dépenser de l’argent. L’inflation est à un niveau record et donc les choses coûtent beaucoup plus cher. Nous devons être stratégiques dans nos dépenses. Ne vous inquiétez pas, cela ne signifie pas que le MSS ne peut pas soutenir l’organisation d’activités ludiques ou même de nouvelles initiatives ! C’est là qu’intervient mon plan. Si je suis élu vice-présidente des finances de MSS, je réorganiserai le budget de MSS pour tenir compte de l’inflation dont notre économie a été affectée. En plus de cela, je soutiendrai le VP Externe pour obtenir des commandites qui seront utiles à tous les étudiants du MSS et travaillerai avec les VP Social pour organiser des événements amusants pour tous, tout en étant financièrement responsable.

De plus, la Covid a affecté nos finances, mais a également affecté les types d’activités qui intéressent les étudiants. Les initiatives qui étaient très populaires il y a quelques années ne le sont peut-être plus, et les nouvelles idées doivent être soutenues ! C’est pourquoi, dans les mois précédant ma présentation du budget final du MSS, j’organiserai des heures de bureau hebdomadaires où les étudiants de toutes les classes de médecine pourront me rencontrer pour discuter des nouvelles initiatives qu’ils souhaitent voir financées par le MSS. Ceux-ci feront l’objet d’un processus d’évaluation et, s’ils sont bénéfiques, feront partie du budget réformé. Donc, si vous avez des idées amusantes, n’hésitez pas à me contacter le moment venu!

Dans l’ensemble, mon objectif est de créer un budget représentatif des intérêts des étudiants et reflétant l’époque actuelle dans laquelle nous nous trouvons.

ABOUT ME

Hi everyone! My name is Arjun Gupta, and I am excited to announce my candidacy for VP of Medical Education! Before diving into my platform, I’d like to tell you a little about myself.

I was born in Montreal and raised in Mississauga, Ontario… But now I’m back (and man, does it feel good)! Prior to medicine, I did a B.A.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Waterloo and continued my studies at the University of Toronto, where I completed an M.Sc. in Medical Biophysics. Despite taking such an unconventional route, I must say that both my background in engineering and Master’s experience have prepared me well for the tough journey that lies ahead. The engineer in me constantly wants to fix problems as soon as I see them, and what better opportunity is there to do so than in this type of leadership position? Additionally, education has been a common theme in my extra-curricular endeavours over the years. I tutored undergrad students in all 5 years of my own undergraduate studies and continued this in an administrative capacity during the pandemic by joining an organization that matches university student mentors with high school student mentees. I am motivated to keep the streak going by representing my current program in a much larger capacity than before. Outside of school, I am an avid gym-goer, anime-watcher, and chess-player. I also LOVE spending time with my dog, Chaya!

PLATFORM

With introductions out of the way, it’s time to explain the three cornerstones of my platform. It focuses on resource development, accessibility, and advocacy.

Resource Development

The first five blocks of FMD have been difficult, stressful, and tiring. However, it’s very easy to forget that we have truly only gotten this far by standing on the shoulders of giants. It’s all the more important that we acknowledge the help and support that has been provided to us by our predecessors. At the end of the day, it really boils down to the countless resources that have been carefully curated and passed down over the years, ranging from the plethora of differently named study notes, to the FMD and KZ Anki decks (huge shoutout to KZ). As VP of Medical Education, I am proposing a new addition to the ever-growing store of study resources: exam prep question banks. Though I am still in FMD, the scope of this project is not limited to FMD students in the slightest – TCP and Clerkship students take exams too. I would be very excited to lead such an endeavour, from which both current and future students, in all four years of medicine, would benefit.

Accessibility

Although we always strive for the best, sometimes life happens, and the best we can do in the moment is just not enough. While it may feel like the worst feeling in the world, failure is a natural process of life and exists to facilitate our own growth. In the context of our medical education program, I am very grateful that we have a remedial exam option – an opportunity for us to pick ourselves back up. That being said, failure can also be very psychologically isolating, and “bouncing back” is often much easier said than done. In the past, the school has sent out emails to affected students stating that the WELL Office has resources in place for helping them. After some improvements made by the current Med-1 council, we now have a system in place where students can self-declare they’ve failed an exam, and then get matched with one of their peers for academic and/or emotional support. From the discussions I’ve had with them, it has been made clear that there are further improvements that can be implemented to make support more accessible. For example, the inclusion of upper-year students to become tutors could eliminate the feeling of being judged by peers in your own year. This initiative could also be extended to those who must take remedial exams in TCP and Clerkship, which would ultimately engage students in all four years. As VP of Medical Education, I would offer my full support to make this happen – my wish is that we all succeed in the end!

Advocacy

Over the past seven months, I’ve listened to the same concerns being raised repeatedly by different students. As mentioned in my introduction, the engineer in me is itching to bring these to light and implement solutions! One issue that has been consistently brought up pertains to the LFME location matching process. Many students have voiced their unhappiness in having to commute large distances to get to their preceptor’s office, despite listing that they do not have access to a vehicle. Others have mentioned that they’ve been placed in locations that are primarily French-speaking, despite not being comfortable in conversational French themselves. I would love to collaborate with the associated subcommittees to help improve the LFME experience for everyone. Upper year students have also voiced their regrets of not having shadowed enough in their previous years. Currently, the Osler Shadowing Club is leading an initiative of matching students to physicians but could perhaps benefit from more physician engagement. As a liaison between the various education committees and clubs, I hope to connect this club with relevant resources that could help to expand its scope for the betterment of the students accessing its services. As an advocate, I would also like to acknowledge that I am not very well versed with many of the issues that the upper year cohorts face… yet. In this role, I am fully aware that it will be my responsibility to take the time and effort to listen to their voices, and advocate in the same capacity as I do with my own cohort.

Finally, I would like to thank the current VP of Medical Education, Sarah Moussa, for her tireless work ethic and all her efforts and accomplishments. Hi everyone! Salut tout le monde! 🙂

My name is Priya, and I’m excited to run for this year’s VP Medical Education! A bit about me: I completed an Honours Bachelor of Science at the University of Ottawa in Translational and Molecular Medicine. Throughout my undergrad, I had the opportunity to be a Recruitment Coordinator for my program’s student council and a Student Ambassador for the university. Both roles allowed me to address future students’ needs and concerns and contribute to improving the experience for current students, which are interests I still have today. Now in medical school at McGill, we’ve had an incredible experience thus far, and I want to help improve our education for us all and future students to come!

There are 3 main areas of my platform that I aim to address as VP Medical Education: communication, advocacy, and longitudinal improvement.   

Communication: There are many meetings that take place between student representatives and the faculty, the discussions of which are not always accessible to students. As a result, my goal will be to begin establishing a protocol for all meetings such as those for the MSS Medical Education Committee (EdCom), Student Leadership meetings, etc. to ensure the agenda and summary points from discussions are accessible to all students. This will increase transparency between student representatives, faculty, and the student body so that everyone has access to discussion points and can offer feedback accordingly. 

Advocacy: An important aspect of this position is to continuously advocate for all medical students at McGill, from Med-1 to Med-4. To effectively advocate for our student body, we will need to ensure that feedback is obtained anonymously from students and communicated at the faculty level. As a result, my goal will be to ensure continuity of the retroactive survey for Fall 2022 and continue obtaining feedback. In addition, I aim to continue this initiative and develop additional surveys for Winter 2023 and Summer 2023, modified as needed to reflect students’ needs and concerns. Furthermore, I aim to work with the faculty, EdCom, and the MSS to potentially develop a unified and streamlined feedback process for clarity and efficiency. Finally, I aim to continue working closely with EdCom and the faculty to ensure students’ needs and interests are continuously being heard at the faculty level.

Longitudinal improvement: Implementing long-standing change requires the interplay of many factors. Thus, I want to begin developing an action plan for us to answer the following questions: How can we implement specific changes based on results from student feedback? How do we know the change will be an improvement from before? How can we establish systems to obtain feedback and reassess the effectiveness of the change? Finally, based on student feedback, I hope to begin the process of developing a strategic plan with the faculty and EdCom to ensure long-term continuity of educational goals and accountability to measure their impact in years to come.

My name is Gabrielle Mercier and I am happy to run for the MSS Montreal Class VP Social.

I was born in Quebec City and raised in a small town where everyone knows each other. I completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Université Laval, started my Master’s and worked one year as a registered nurse in pulmonology and cardiology before starting medical school. I know how important it is to take a break from studying or from the hospital and just take the time to relax, socialize and meet new people.

It would be a pleasure for me to enable medical students to do just that.   

There are 3 key points that I would like to emphasize for my candidacy :

  1. Wine & Cheese event  : My goal is to offer a reasonable-priced Wine & Cheese event for all McGill medical students. I want to make sure to provide non-alcoholic drinks and lactose-free cheese so that a great number of people can join the event! Most importantly, students will be encouraged to dress up for the occasion.  I also look forward to plan Block parties that everyone can enjoy without stressing about the upcoming exam.
  2. Communication : The amount of information that we receive on a daily basis can be quite overwhelming. I will make sure that the right amount of information about the events and other social activities are posted over the Facebook page and the messenger chat. For all my people that can’t keep up with the messages in the Facebook chat, I got you! I would definitely send an email every month or so to announce upcoming social events. If you have any questions or comments, don’t be shy to send me message and it will be a pleasure for me to answer.
  3. Diversity & Safety : As you guys probably know, the McGill Medicine Class of 2026 is the most diverse cohort of all time. I really want to make sure that every student feels included and safe in all social activities. If you see or experience something that makes you uncomfortable at our events, know that you can always come talk to me about it and that I can guide you through the reporting procedures if needed. My goal is to organize events that are a safe-space for all.

Hello McGill Medicine! My name is Kamila Majidova, and I am first year medical student running for VP Social Affairs. I am born and raised in Tajikistan and moved to Montreal when I was 10 years old. I did my B.Sc. and M.Sc in Physiotherapy here at McGill from 2017-2021. During my undergraduate years, I held a similar position as VP Social Affairs in the Physiotherapy Undergraduate Society.  I learned a lot during this experience. Hey everyone! My name’s Rami Hamoudeh, your fellow Med-1 on McGill Montreal campus, and I’m super excited to be running to serve as your VP Social rep 2023-2024! 

As some of you may already know, I love organizing activities and outings, and bringing people together for a great time, and I think my imagination is as wild and creative as they come! If you’ve been to some of my hosted disco parties and Halloween Fright Fest (and if not, I hope you come to the next one!), you know that I put in 150% to ensuring it’s a memorable time for everyone.

Throughout my biomed undergrad and graduate studies in Neuroscience at uOttawa, I’ve had the opportunity to join and lead several organizations, which I believe have helped build my skillset for this position. I’m a huge people’s person, and when it comes to planning, I love organizing events, and encouraging ideas from others. Some examples of my experiences include being VP of Fundraising with Swimming with a Mission Ottawa (SWAM) Ottawa NGO, and VP-Fundraising/President of the uOttawa Global Brigades Humanitarian Team, where I oversaw securing sponsors and coordinating exciting talent shows, coffee houses, club nights, trivia nights, and more!

1) Promoting the McGill Student Family Experience (#McGillMedFamPhotos)

Coming from a minority background in the Middle East, I understand the importance of promoting a safe and inclusive environment, regardless of someone’s background or orientation. Til this day, I know several of us haven’t met one another, and I think it’s important to build wholesome relationships, as we will likely work together far into our professions and futures! I want everyone to feel right at home and coming out of the pandemic, I understand many of us have felt like we missed out on important social experiences. I’m here to promote group activities, where students can get to know each other on a deeper level, just like a family.
One thing I want to start is the McGill Student Family photos, using a retro film camera and inviting all those who feel comfortable, to join in on photos taken at large-scale social events and in our day-to-day classes and activities, and periodically develop the photos to make a laminated mural on campus, showcasing our entire McGill Student Family! 

2) Ensuring you get your moneys’ worth with the best bang for your buck!
I’m a student like you, and I understand that finances aren’t always the easiest, and no one likes that feeling you get when you overpay for something. That’s why I’m making it a promise to all you that I will do the very best that I can, working with our exec team to give you the best venues, the best food, the best activities and the best memories (this one you have to help with haha), all for the lowest possible prices. If that means hardcore negotiations and not settling for anything less than ideal for all of you, then that’s what’s going to happen. After each event, our exec team will send out a quick survey asking about your experiences and suggestions for improvements in the future events, because you’re all my McGill Student Family, and you matter! 

3) Improving social activities and creating exciting new ones! (Re-Vamped Frosh, Halloween trips, Talent shows, On-campus Sugar Bush, water parks etc)
As students, I understand we’re always on the grind so my goal is to ensure that you guys all have the most fun outings and activities waiting for you around every corner. Not only is it a great opportunity to meet new people but also a chance to unwind and de-stress in between classes.
Some ideas on top of the current events include introducing more organized sports into Frosh like soccer, basketball, tennis etc.., and revamping Halloween parties with smoke machines, photoshoots and a trip to La Ronde during Halloween season. Other things in the early school year include a waterpark trip to Saint-Sauveur, and in the winter season, bringing in the Sugar Bush on Campus so you can roll your own maple taffy. Another exciting personal favourite of mine is hosting an extravagant coffee house talent show with insane raffles prizes and show-cased talent from our classmates.

I would love the opportunity to serve in this role, as I am extremely passionate about wellness in our med class and will work tirelessly towards improving it. From discussing with our peers, it seems like there is a disconnect between the students and VP Wellness; a central goal of my platform is to bridge this gap. I want everyone to feel empowered to speak up about mental health problems they are facing so that I can best address their specific needs. To give med students more opportunity to share their opinions and issues, I will post polls or dropboxes for people to voice their complaints and see what can be improved upon. Concurrently, I will update the student body on changes that we are implementing with wellness. I hope that this dynamic interaction will make everyone feel that their mental health is taken seriously, as it should. Additionally, part of my role is to govern the Medical Student Wellness committee, therefore, I hope to work with clubs that have wellness-focused missions so that we can reach a larger group of students. I hope that by pooling our resources and outreach, we will better achieve our club’s mission is to promote wellness. Having had experience as Med-1 rep on the VP Wellness committee this year, my knowledge of the inner workings of the club has taught me lessons that will make me an excellent leader in this position. Finally, suicide awareness and prevention is a topic I’m extremely passionate about and something that medical schools can handle better. I understand that it is a very sensitive topic and is difficult to appropriately discuss, however we are all undergoing a high level of stress and are all susceptible to mental health problems. The previous VP Wellness has begun a pilot project on suicide prevention training for the incoming Med-1s and I will work hard to ensure that it is incorporated in every year’s curriculum. Additionally, I would like to focus on rebooting the Peer Support Program, as having someone in your life who is trained to discuss these issues in an open and safe setting is an important step in addressing mental health problem, particularly if they may develop into suicidal tendencies. Medical school is a difficult time for all of us, and I feel confident that as the VP Wellness, I will be able to promote the mental health needs of our student body.

Hey class of 2026 (aka future Med 2s!) I’m Laurence and I’m very excited to be running for med  2 class representative! I was involved as a student representative during my high school years,  and I really liked helping my classmates being heard and participating in creating social events  for them, so I hope I can get to do the same for our class. I like when people have fun and feel  included. I also like organizing activities and planification, which I think are important for a class  representative.  

For an ecosystem to prosper, its members must communicate and have good interactions.  When you think of it, a class is just like an ecosystem! On that sentimental note, I would like to  introduce you to my platform:  

– Be accessible and available for the class: I really like to chat, but also listen. If you have any  suggestion for any events, like a block party, I would be very happy to hear it. Those events are  made for people to have fun, so I’d think it I think it would be great to year what would be fun for  you. I want the events we’ll have to represent you and your taste. I promise to keep my email and  Facebook message as well. I also enjoy a good old-fashioned chat, so I’d also be very happy to  hear from you in between lectures. I also aim to represent our lass, its values, and its interest at  the best of my capacities, in collaboration with our class president, at the General Council.  

– Organize a variety of activities to meet different tastes, in an environment that promote fun  and safety: medical school should be a fun experience for everyone. No matter if you are more I love-to-dance-all-night kind of person or a let’s-chat-play-board-games kind of person, I hope to  create occasions to continue to create links with other people in the class. May it be to form bonds  with future colleagues or unwind with your friends, I hope everyone can get something out of the  events. If that is something that would interest people, I’m open to create more small events that  are not necessarily l inked to celebrating a milestone, like a block party. Also, for events to be  enjoyable, I deeply believe everyone should feel welcome and safe and I promise to work to make  the events to meet those standards. Inclusion is and will continue to be one of my top priorities. 

– Efficient and clear information to keep everyone up to date on social events and on other  things of significance: isn’t UpToDate our favorite things? Joke aside, I would like to work in  collaboration with our class president and other members of the MSS to make sure you get all the  information you need concerning what is going on in our class, may it be regarding upcoming  events or more diverse news. I intend to achieve that via messages in the chat and our Facebook  group or via a class email. On the top of my list of frustrating things, there is realizing too late  there was an event happening and not being able to attend because it is too late. I would like to  make sure this doesn’t happen to you. We are constantly bombarded with so many messages and  newsletter and reminders: I want to keep my communication simple but effective to maximize  the outcomes in way that don’t make you feel overwhelmed. Messages will be written in a way  to facilitate information finding, for example by using bullet points. Communication is a classic of  many electoral platforms, but for a reason: communication is key!  

Overall, I really want to make our last year before clerkship enjoyable and memorable. Since we  are in block F, I feel like the best thing I can tell you to end this is: I hope we can all have a BLAST  together!

J’aime que les gens s’amusent et se sentent intégrés. J’aime aussi organiser des activités  et planifier, ce qui me semble important pour un délégué de classe.

Par ailleurs, pour que les événements soient agréables, je  crois profondément que tout le monde doit se sentir bienvenu et en sécurité, et je promets de  m’efforcer de faire en sorte que les événements répondent à ces critères. L’inclusion est et restera  l’une de mes principales priorités.  

– Des informations efficaces et claires pour tenir tout le monde au courant des événements  sociaux et d’autres choses importantes : J’aimerais travailler en collaboration avec notre  président de classe et les autres membres de la MSS pour m’assurer que vous obteniez toutes les  informations dont vous avez besoin concernant ce qui se passe dans notre classe, qu’il s’agisse  d’événements à venir ou de nouvelles plus diverses. La  communication est un classique de nombreuses plateformes électorales, mais pour une bonne  raison : elle est essentielle !

Hello everyone! My name is Michael and I am thrilled to be running for Med 2 Class Representative. As a social person who uses Google Calendar religiously, I hope to use these skills to continue keeping the Class of 2026 connected and bring us even closer together.  I aim to do this through three main points:

Representation: As the voice of your class at meetings of the General Council, I would attend these meetings and provide updates on behalf of our class. Alongside my co-representative, I would ensure that your views and concerns are accurately and effectively communicated to the General Council. I can be reached by email, phone, or Facebook messenger anytime and am happy to bring up any points you may have!

Event Organization: Another primary aspect of my position would be organizing all social events for our class. This includes the classic block parties and other social events. In working with other council members, I hope to add variety to our social gatherings by conducting periodic polls to gauge interest in different events and outings for our class. I want to create a fun and engaging atmosphere that fosters a sense of community and camaraderie, and I’ll always be open to fun suggestions!

Communication: If elected, I will ensure that I am not only representing your concerns but am also a trusted point of contact between the class and other members of the General Council. I would keep you informed of all upcoming social events and General Council meetings through regular updates containing clearly distilled information with key dates and important info. Additionally, if you have any questions or concerns, I would be happy to answer them or consult other council members on your behalf. Hi everyone, Bonjour à tous! My name is Taylor (she/her), and I’m super excited to be running as your M2 Class President! This year, I have had the honor of serving as the Med-1 Academic Representative, and I cannot wait to continue my involvement with the class. 

Throughout my time as Academic Rep, my main objective has been to support and motivate our class through the many ups and downs of FMD. I have accomplished this through many venues, such as my weekly posts, organized class resources, communications with the UGME, and representing our class at various meetings. It has been extremely rewarding to engage with you all, and I hope that you have felt represented and heard! 

Overall, here is what you can expect from me as Class President: 

  1. My Academic Rep roles will continue as we embark on FMD #2, RAC and TCP. For FMD, I will continue ensuring we have organized and effective resources, specifically our Block Notes. I’ll maintain my relationships with Block Leaders to ensure that our concerns are always met, and that our experiencing closing our FMD is as stress-free as possible. For RAC and TCP, my role will continue and evolve with the new demands of these UGME eras. TCP will undoubtedly be a time of decisions, new environments and unknowns. But I promise to guide us through and make this process as clear and simple as possible. 
  2. Clear, timely, and effective communication has been an important value of mine since starting my role. Whether it be through our class group chat, personal messages, or interacting with the faculty, communication is extremely important to me. I promise to keep up my same habits and ensure that the relationship I have established with both my classmates and the UGME administration is maintained and thriving. 
  3. A class council ready to serve you! In Med-2, we will go through several milestones as a class, including the White Coat Ceremony, the end of FMD, and the end of TCP. As president, I will work with our class council to ensure that these events are tailored around celebrating our class, the hard work we have put in, and the future we are all working towards.  I look forward to involving the class in these decisions and ensuring that everyone’s voice is heard regarding these big moments.

My platform is based on minimizing costs, and maximizing resources. Given the current  inflation rate, cost of activities has increased. In order to help mitigate the rising costs of, well,  everything, I’m looking to use my negotiation skills from past industry experience working with  vendors to find great deals and sponsorships for our activities, apply my organizational skills to  coordinate with the MSS team to maximize communal resources, and maintain great  relationships with current sponsors and partners. I will also be doing research to find new  venues of revenue, including through campus-based sources (e.g., PGSS) and new community  and industry-based sponsorships.

My name is Jasmine Leung (she/her), and I would like to return as one of your Med 3 Class Representatives. I have had the pleasure of planning some wonderful events as your Med 2 Class Representative and in my other roles. I am also comfortable voicing your needs at MSS General Councils. I would be honoured to continue to serve as one of your Class Representatives.

If elected, I would focus on the following initiatives:

  1. Organizing a wide variety of events that are reflective of the diverse interests of Med 3’s – including block parties at bars/pubs and free and non-drinking activities.
  2. Creating simple, brief anonymous forms to collect feedback for events so Med 3’s can accessibly voice concerns, identify unmet needs, and make suggestions.
  3. Including and publicizing harm-reductive partners such as Walksafe, Drivesafe, MSERT, and Red Frogs at relevant events to reduce accessibility barriers.
  4. Continuing the excellent working relationship between the Med 3 Class Representative(s) and the rest of the Med 3 Class Council as well as the MSS General Council.

My relevant experience:

  1. One year as Med-2 Class Representative for the Class of 2025.
    • Planned the FMD Gala at Crew Collective and Café, 2 block parties, and 1 mid-block party.
    • Presently planning the end-of-TCP event and 2 more block parties.
  2. Three years as an Executive of the Science Undergraduate Society of McGill University (SUS), including one year as President.
    • Advocated for a diverse undergraduate constituency of 5,000+ students at meetings with faculty and administrators; ensured that the SUS fulfilled its mandates and met students’ needs.
  3. Five years as a Floor Fellow for McGill University Student Housing
    • Worked as a live-in mentor and frontline all-around support resource for 33 – 54 first-year students per year in residences; advocated for residents’ needs at weekly meetings with supervisors and colleagues; planned events for residents.
    • My best events: Trip to the Montreal Botanical Gardens – Lantern Festival, Podcast listening session and discussion, “How to Get Involved in Research at McGill” workshop, Mindfulness meditation workshop, “Finding an Apartment 101” workshop.

J’ai eu le plaisir de planifier de merveilleux événements en tant que représentante de la classe Med-2 et en à travers mes autres rôles. Exprimer vos besoins lors de conseil général du MSS fait partie de mon champ de compétence. Je serais donc honorée de continuer à servir en tant que représentante de la classe.

Si je suis élue, je me concentrerai sur les initiatives suivantes :

  1. Organiser une grande variété d’événements qui reflètent les divers intérêts des Med-3 – incluant les fêtes de fin de bloc aux bars/pubs et les activités gratuites et sans alcool.
  2. Créer des formulaires anonymes simples et brefs pour recueillir des commentaires sur les événements afin que les Med-3 puissent exprimer leurs préoccupations sans encombre, identifier les lacunes et faire des suggestions.

Mon expérience:

  3. Cinq ans en tant que Floor Fellow pour les logements étudiants de l’Université McGill
    • Travailler en tant que mentor résidant et ressource de soutien polyvalente de première ligne pour 33 à 54 étudiants de première année dans des résidences; mettre en lumière les besoins des résidents lors des réunions hebdomadaires avec les superviseurs et collègues; planifier des évènements pour les résidents.
    • Mes meilleurs événements : Activité au Jardin botanique de Montréal – Fête des lanternes, séance d’écoute et discussion de balados, atelier « Comment s’impliquer dans la recherche à McGill », atelier de méditation pleine conscience, atelier « Trouver un appartement 101 ».

Je suis impatiente de mettre mes expériences et mes idées novatrices à disposition de mes collègues de la cohorte 2025 afin de leur fournir les meilleurs événements possibles et plaidoyer en leur faveur. Hello Class of 2025, after two years of having the privilege of being your social/class rep, I would like to ask for your support once more. In the past couple of years, we’ve had lots of fun, whether it was an awesome end-of-year party, a wholesome park hang, a very classy end-of-FMD gala, or a simple board game night.

As social/class representative, my main goal would be to continue the work that I’ve done with my fellow social/class rep (Jasmine Leung) to keep an inclusive, accessible, and wholesome environment for everyone in our class. The social events are for you to have fun and create long-lasting bonds with your fellow classmates. 

As we all know, clerkship will be the busiest period of our medical degree and I would say, because of this, it is extra important to have opportunities to unwind with our cohort. We are very much looking forward to having events for our class in order for the cohort to be able to spend time with each other.

Finally, we also want to make sure that your voice is heard, so please if you have any concerns/suggestions/ideas about past events and future events. Please feel free to reach out and we will try to integrate your feedback into our future events.

Hello Class of 2025!

I have had the honour to represent our class as Class President for the two years and I would absolutely love to keep this position for the next year! As a class, we have had the immense privilege to experience life-changing moments together such as our White Coat Ceremony. Over this time, I’ve been working extremely hard to make your medical education journey be a smooth as possible. As we soon head into clerkship, I truly believe I am the right person to make this transition much easier for all of you.

The first priority that I have identified is communication between the student body and the faculty. It is absolutely crucial for me to continue my work facilitating transparent and productive communication between UGME and us by sending frequent reminders/messages, collecting student input and sitting our various UGME subcommittees to voice yours concerns. 

Secondly, one of my proudest achievements as class president has been to be able to provide individualized support to many of my classmates. As medical students, we already have a lot – and I mean a lot – on our hands so it is extremely important for me to be there for you to guide you towards the available resources and advocate on your behalf when needed so you can receive the help you deserve.

Lastly, the transition from FMD/TCP to clerkship is not always an easy one and I am here to do everything in my power to support our class in this. Streams, electives, period 7, mistreatment, vacation time… Starting clerkship also means entering a completely new reality with a new set of policies. I have had the chance to familiarize myself with many of these through interacting with upper years on faculty committees as well as through spending a lot of time on the UGME website. I am excited to be a point person for all of you as we get accustomed to this entirely new world.

J’ai l’honneur de représenter notre classe en tant que président de classe depuis deux ans et j’aimerais absolument garder ce poste pour l’année prochaine ! Nous avons eu l’immense privilège de vivre ensemble des moments qui changent la vie, comme notre White Coat Ceremony. Au cours de cette période, j’ai travaillé extrêmement fort pour que votre parcours en médecine se déroule le mieux possible. Alors que nous nous dirigeons bientôt vers l’externat, je crois sincèrement que je suis la bonne personne pour faciliter cette transition pour vous tous.

La première priorité que j’ai identifiée est la communication entre le corps étudiant et la faculté. Il est absolument crucial pour moi de continuer mon travail en facilitant une communication transparente et productive entre l’UGME et nous en envoyant des rappels/messages fréquents, en recueillant les commentaires des étudiants et en siégeant sur différents sous-comités de l’UGME pour exprimer vos préoccupations.

Deuxièmement, l’une des réalisations dont je suis le plus fier en tant que président de classe a été de pouvoir fournir un soutien individualisé à plusieurs de mes camarades de classe. En tant qu’étudiants en médecine, nous avons déjà beaucoup – et je veux dire beaucoup – entre nos mains, il est donc extrêmement important pour moi d’être là pour vous guider vers les ressources disponibles et plaider en votre nom en cas de besoin afin que vous puissiez recevoir le l’aide que vous méritez.

Enfin, la transition de FMD/TCP à l’externat n’est pas toujours facile et je suis là pour faire tout ce qui est en mon pouvoir pour soutenir notre classe dans cette démarche. Streams, electives, période 7, maltraitance, vacances… Commencer l’externat, c’est aussi entrer dans une toute nouvelle réalité avec un nouvel ensemble de politiques. J’ai eu la chance de me familiariser avec bon nombre d’entre eux en interagissant avec les étudiants des autres années au sein des comités de faculté ainsi qu’en passant beaucoup de temps sur le site Web de l’UGME. Je serais ravi d’être une personne ressource pour vous tous alors que nous nous habituons à ce monde entièrement nouveau.

I’m Felix Mailloux and I am running to become your Med-3 Treasurer for next year. Here is how I imagine the next  year (plot twist, the management of the account won’t drastically change!): 

I’ll keep the budget completely transparent: whenever it seems pertinent, I will post an update on the  budget, how much there is left, what is planed with it, what the options for our next parties are.

I’ll be open to suggestions: with the budget update post, I’ll make sure to make it easy for you to propose  new ideas or wishes for projects to do. Since it is our money, we naturally all get a say in the way it is  spent. Therefore, I’ll make sure that everyone who wants to propose something can do it easily.

I’ll work closely with the social representants of our cohort to make sure the money is used in the best way possible. Since my job is to make sure the money is well managed, I’ll make sure that the budget is  not overspent and that we get the most bang for our buck. 

Here is a bit about me: I’m an organized and pretty rational person. I don’t like impulsive spending and I make  sure that big expenses are well thought out. I like parties and social events (every event will have a decent budget  to work with), but I know that it isn’t everyone’s case. Therefore, I will make sure that the budget is spent in a way  that everyone can profit from it and get the most out of it. Indeed, as a(n) (ex-) musician and orchestral section  leader, and as the current treasurer, I can adequately represent a group’s interests and make sure that no one is  left out.

While Med-3 was a time of big change due to clerkship and varying schedules, we had an amazing time planning diverse events during the end-of-blocks including a night of games at Randolph followed by sharing laughter over drinks at the bar. We are actually in the midst of planning for a bigger event for the end of Med-3, so keep your ears peeled for an announcement sooner than later! We also could not have done any of what we did without Abed and Amina, it was a great team to work with and we would be thrilled to work together again. Our three main pillars will be adaptability, inclusivity, and having a blast!

Adaptability – As always, we plan to stay adaptable to the situation at hand given that people will have varying schedules and sites of training throughout Med-4. However, the real event in Med-4 will be Grad Ball, where we plan to make the event of a lifetime!

Inclusivity – With a plethora of diverse events in mind, we want to make sure that there is something for everyone to enjoy. Whether you like to party, or have a relaxing board game night, or a day in the park, there will be something for you!

Having a blast – At the end of the day, as med school gets busier and we get more dispersed into different streams, what matters is that we can relax and enjoy our time together as the class of 2024.

My name is Abed, and I am excited and humbled to be re-running for class president! Over the past three years, I have had the pleasure of serving in this role, and it would be an honour to continue this commitment through our last year together. 

Since Med-1, I have always aimed to maintain accountability and transparency while continuously collecting your feedback and listening to every concern. As we went through clerkship together, I continued to push for your best interest in mind, from successfully working on a more lenient absences and leaves policy, early release of Med-4 schedules and access to visiting electives to pushing for more flexible course requirements, rescheduling multiple deadlines and keeping you regularly informed through frequent announcements and town halls. 

Next year may be the most challenging, and I strive to ensure that your voice remains central by advocating for you across all levels of the faculty, whether through CaRMS, electives, or the remainder of clerkship. As we wrap our medical school journey, I hope to continue advocating for your needs while prioritizing your wellness and working with our class council to support you academically and socially.

Depuis Med-1, j’ai toujours cherché à maintenir la responsabilité et la transparence tout en recueillant continuellement vos commentaires et en écoutant à toutes vos préoccupations. Au cours de notre externat, j’ai continué à défendre vos intérêts, à travaillant avec succès sur une politique plus souple en matière d’absences et de congés, sur la publication anticipée des horaires de Med-4 et sur l’accès aux stages à options, en insistant sur des exigences plus souples en matière de cours, en reportant de nombreuses échéances et en vous tenant régulièrement informés par le biais d’annonces et de réunions publiques.

My name is Amina, I am the current Med-3 Montreal Class Treasurer, and I would be honored to manage your finances for one last year as the Med-4 Montreal Class Treasurer! The past two years have been enriching in many ways as I was able to manage budgets, maintain accurate financial records and organize successful fundraisers. It was all possible thanks to the help and support of Abed, Anindyo and Chris with whom I had the chance to work and wish to continue doing so for our last year of medical school. My platform lies on three important pillars that are transparency, fundraising, and teamwork! 

Transparency – I wish to continue establishing a trusting environment where everyone can feel included and heard and intend to be fully transparent concerning Class finances. I believe that openness , accountability, and communication constitute the recipe for a successfully thriving Council!

Funding and Fundraising – With the graduation ball around the corner, it will be my duty to ensure that the class is adequately funded. I intend to seek out funding opportunities and explore creative ways of fundraising in order to organize events that will enhance the class experience for all members. 

Teamwork – Together with Abed, Anindyo and Chris, I am excited to better serve the class for one last year as I believe that teamwork is a crucial aspect of a successful council. We want to advocate for your ideas and embody the most accurate representation of your needs for the upcoming year, as teamwork is not only important between council members, but with the Class as well.

Je m’appelle Amina, je suis la trésorière actuelle de la classe Med-3, et je serais honorée de gérer vos finances pour une dernière année en tant que trésorière de la classe Med-4! Les deux dernières années ont été enrichissantes à bien des égards; j’ai pu gérer des budgets, tenir des registres financiers précis et organiser des collectes de fonds. Tout cela a été possible grâce à l’aide et au soutien d’Abed, Anindyo et Chris avec qui j’ai eu la chance de travailler et que je souhaite continuer à faire pour notre dernière année de médecine. Hello everyone! I hope you’re all well!

My name is Mustafa and I am running for re-election to be the Medicine Senator in the upcoming year! 

What does a senator do? I would represent the best interests of medical students, the MSS, and all students at the University Senate and its committees! The McGill Senate is like a McGill council of over 100 senators, including the principal, the provosts, the deans, different professors & staff, and around 10 students! Student Senators have had various projects at the Senate in recent years which succeeded, such as pushing for a fall reading week!

I believe I am fit for the role of Medicine Senator due to my vast past experiences as well as my already existing healthy relationship with many key players of the Senate. My past experiences include:

  • Medicine Senator (2022-2023)
  • McGill Senate Committee on Enrollment and Student Affairs
  • McGill Advisory Board on the Student Wellness Hub
  • McGill Committee on Student Discipline
  • Faculty Representative (SSMU Legislative Council and Committees)

  • President, VP External, Advisor (Muslim Students’ Association)

At the Senate, nothing works without a full team collective effort. This year, as a team, our caucus (group of student senators) has been able to achieve a lot of traction, including the following:

  • More lenient and relaxed rules regarding student sick leaves pertaining to COVID-19 infections.
  • No end of year Exams during sunset to accommodate for Ramadan.
  • Pausing excavations at the old Royal Victoria Hospital to evaluate the surveying for potential mass graves of indigenous peoples.
  • Halal food in most of the Universities restaurants and Thompson House.
  • Providing extensive student input on the new Provincially required Policy on Academic Freedom.
  • Exposing skyrocketing food prices in residences and slowing down hikes in collaboration with the University.
  • Developing an extensive policy on accommodations.

Through these experiences and by consulting you, my friends, classmates, and colleagues, I hope to represent medical students, the MSS, and students in general at the University Senate, Senate Committees and Senate caucus. I will also collaborate with the Outaouais representative at SSMU to help represent the Outaouais campus with whatever they need at the McGill Senate.

In addition to fulfilling my basic duties as Senator, I hope to continue and/or kick start some projects, including but not limited to 

  • Establishing a good and proper working relationship between our Faculty and the incoming Principal, Professor Deep Saini, as well as his office.
  • Continue working with the Deputy Provost office of Student Life and Learning, Professor Fabrice Lebeau, on renewing the Memorandum of Agreement between McGill University and the Medical Students’ Society which expired in 2019
  • Continue working with minority and underrepresented groups to have their concerns addressed which have been long overlooked by the University.

Qu’est-ce que je ferais en tant que sénateur ? Je représenterais les meilleurs intérêts des étudiants en médecine et du MSS au Sénat de l’Université et à ses comités! Le Sénat de McGill est un conseil de McGill de plus de 100 sénateurs, incluant la principale, les prévôts, les doyens, différents professeurs et membres du personnel et une dizaine d’étudiants ! Les étudiants ont mené avec succès plusieurs initiatives pendant les dernières années incluant l’ajout d’une semaine de lecture à l’automne!

Je crois que je suis mieux qualifié pour le rôle de sénateur en médecine puisque j’ai beaucoup d’expérience et de nombreuses relations existantes avec plusieurs membres du Sénat. De plus, j’ai beaucoup d’expérience de travail en équipe pour atteindre des objectifs importants. Mes expériences antérieures incluent:

Au Sénat, rien ne marche sans un effort collectif de toute l’équipe. Cette année, en équipe, notre caucus (groupe d’étudiants sénateurs) a été en mesure d’obtenir beaucoup de traction, notamment les suivantes :

  • Règles plus clémentes et assouplies concernant les congés de maladie des étudiants liés aux infections au COVID-19.
  • Pas d’examens de fin d’année au coucher du soleil pour tenir compte du Ramadan.
  • Suspendre les fouilles à l’ancien hôpital Royal Victoria pour évaluer l’arpentage des fosses communes potentielles des peuples autochtones.
  • Nourriture halal dans la plupart des restaurants des universités et Thompson House.
  • Fournir des commentaires détaillés aux étudiants sur la nouvelle politique provinciale sur la liberté académique.
  • Dénoncer la flambée des prix alimentaires dans les résidences et ralentir les hausses en collaboration avec l’Université.
  • Élaboration d’une vaste politique d’hébergement.

En utilisant ces expériences et en vous consultant, mes amis, camarades de classe et collègues, j’espère représenter les étudiants en médecine, le MSS et les étudiants en général au Sénat de l’Université, aux comités du Sénat et au caucus du Sénat. Je vais collaborer également avec le représentant de l’Outaouais à l’AEUM pour aider à représenter le campus de l’Outaouais sur tout ce dont ils ont besoin au Sénat de McGill.

  • Établir une bonne relation de travail entre la faculté et le nouveau principal, le professeur Deep Saini, ainsi que son bureau.

Hi everyone! I’m Vaidehi (pronounced “vay-duh-hee”, she/her), and I’m excited to be running for the role of MSS Medicine Senator for the 2023-2024 academic year.

A bit about me: I’m a proud Indian Canadian who has called Montreal home for the past 10 years. I’ve spent way too much time in the McIntyre building in my life, first as an undergrad in pharmacology and then studying epidemiology. I escaped briefly to work as a consultant in global health advocacy and strategy, but it turns out that all roads lead to McMed in the end! Outside of school I love hockey, reading, and eating ice cream along the Lachine canal with my dog.

As Medicine Senator, I would serve as our faculty’s student liaison with the McGill Senate, McGill’s academic governing body. I see this as a critical opportunity for the MSS to be involved in McGill governance and remain up to date with university-wide changes that affect both medical students and our peers in other faculties and programs.

My priority – and mandate – will be to advocate for medical students. Navigating McGill bureaucracy and advocating for my classmates is something I know well: as an undergraduate I served as President of the Pharmacology Integrative League of Students, and part of my mandate was representing nearly 350 undergraduates at faculty meetings, including once attending the McGill Senate. This involved voting on motions that directly affected students and discussing the academic structure of the pharmacology program with professors, including some who are Senators today. I really treasured these experiences, which is why I look forward to representing my amazing peers in the MDCM program.

Effective advocacy also means active communication. As Medicine Senator, I will always be transparent. That means actively updating the MSS on upcoming and completed Senate meetings, soliciting feedback, and engaging the student body when needed. Of course, the McGill Senate governs academics across the university, and not everything will be relevant for medical students. I will collaborate with fellow MSS members to ensure that we are always respectful of your busy schedules while keeping you informed. I will also always be available for any questions from the MSS or students about the Senate or our involvement in it.

Hello everyone! My name is Claire (she/her) and I would love to have the chance to represent you all through the Student’s Society of McGill University (SSMU)! Having a voice for the medical students at SSMU is really important for promoting our interests and needs to the greater McGill community. I have lots of experience liaising with university student governance through my time as a sport club executive and student researcher and I am keen to represent the medical students at this level. 

My main goals include:

  1. Promoting the interests and needs of the medical students to the McGill student leadership to ensure that someone is advocating for us at the highest student level. We all know that we face unique challenges through our medical curriculum and I want to be able to communicate our needs effectively to SSMU so that we feel valued within the greater McGill community and push for change that will make our student experience better.
  2. SSMU’s Board of Directors and Legislative Council can make decisions and push for changes that will impact all McGill students. I want to be a voice for the medical students so that we can push for sustainable and equitable changes within the McGill community.
  3. Be an active liaison between the Medical Student’s Society, the SSMU and the Postgraduate Students’ Society of McGill (PGSS). Medical students at McGill are a mix of students in age and academic background and their social and academic needs can be defined as a blend of both undergraduate and post-graduate. I want to be able to integrate these needs with both SSMU and the PGSS to ensure all medical students feel that they are getting the most out of their experience in medical school at McGill.

Hi all! My name is Madison Odabassian, and I am a Med-1 student running for Student Spaces Officer next year. I have experience hosting large-scale events and optimizing the design of spaces. I hope to put my experience to good use next year at the Annexe. The three main changes I hope to instate include: 

  1. Update the furniture and add decor to the walls to provide a clean, welcoming, and fresh space for studying and events.
  2.  Optimize the online booking platform and create a calendar that is easily accessible to all for preview of upcoming events and to help clubs with event promotion.

In addition, I will personally make regular visits to the space to ensure it is kept at the highest standard of cleanliness and always fully stocked with supplies to make it more inviting. I also want to always have a clean, working coffee machine with pods available (lets help fight the extreme cafeteria prices for mediocre coffee!!) I would be honoured to serve as part of the council and put my passion for interior design to good use, for you!

Ces derniers mois m’ont apporté à me questionner quant aux nécessitées académiques du Campus Outaouais, et c’est sous cette motivation que je me présente aux élections de la MSS pour m’impliquer dans un rôle qui me tient à cœur.

D’abord, je crois qu’il est important que je vous présente ma perception de l’instruction pour déterminer si elle est compatible avec la vôtre (en tout cas contraire il existe le chair). 


La représentation académique, pour moi, c’est une position qui doit prendre les réalités des 25 étudiants de la cohorte, c’est-à-dire des méthodes d’études différentes, des opinions divergentes en rapport à l’application de l’enseignement, et des responsabilités qui ne s’équivalent pas en tout temps. At the end of the day, aucun n’étudiant ne fonctionne de la même façon et tous attribuent des importances différentes concernant les nombreux angles de l’éducation. Cependant, pour que cette expérience académique fonctionne, j’ai pensé à plusieurs valeurs inhérentes que je souhaite partager par la position de représentant académique.

Structurer le parcours académique

Je crois qu’il est nécessaire d’instaurer une organisation dans l’annonce des différentes tâches à remplir au cours des semaines et dans les ressources qui sont à la disposition des étudiants. Ainsi, je souhaite mettre en place une plateforme d’annonces claire et mise à jour à mesure que l’information est disponible, et de maintenir ACTIF un Drive Outaouais regroupant, pour une fois, TOUTES les ressources académiques disponibles pour l’ENSEMBLE des étudiants.


Développer des ressources

Je souhaite développer une ressource simple, accessible, et qui peut être utilisée par le plus grand nombre d’étudiants de notre classe. J’adresserai vos différentes idées qui me permettront de l’établir. Ces derniers temps, je comptais mettre en place une banque de questions à choix multiples précédant chaque examen que je réaliserai, dans la même lignée que j’ai faite précédemment.

Délivrer votre message à l’administration

Ma vision du représentant académique est celle d’un MESSAGER de l’opinion de la classe, qui n’est pas à mon image, et qui vocalise la réalité de tous. Pour moi, c’est d’expliciter exactement ce que vous souhaitez transmettre à l’administration, et de délivrer votre message jusqu’à temps que le changement s’enclenche.

Des ressources adéquates pour Tous

Tout d’abord, mon premier objectif sera de mettre en lumière les erreurs de traductions des ressources offertes en Français afin d’y remédier. Que ce soit par une traduction adéquate en français de notre matériel pédagogique ; de nos notes de cours, des ressources en anatomie ou même des manuels de référence! Je crois qu’il est essentiel en tant que campus francophone d’avoir le droit d’avoir des ressources 100% (ou presque) francophone.  

Mais encore, bien que je promeus une éducation en français, je crois qu’il est important d’avoir toutes les ressources pertinentes à notre apprentissage. C’est pourquoi, je serai en quelque sorte le cheval de bataille afin que nous ayons aussi droit aux ressources qui sont données au campus Montréal comme les enregistrements des cours en anglais. En résumer, mon premier objectif sera de pallier les ressources imparfaites de Français afin que nous ayons droit à une éducation 100% Francophone tout en nous donnant l’accès à toutes les ressources anglophones possibles afin d’optimiser notre apprentissage et que nous soyons tous de parfait médecin bilingue. 

Social un jour social toujours !

Ensuite, bien que je change de branche de mon rôle habituel, le fait que j’ai été représentante sociale ces deux dernières années ne sera pas d’aucune utilité. En fait, vous le savez comme moi, j’adore organiser des activités afin que tout le monde passe tu bon temps. C’est pourquoi, en tant que présidente de classe je souhaite aider activement le représentant social élu afin d’organiser des activités sociales hors pair ! 

Et puis la maison mère ?

Pour finir, bien que je sois pour l’indépendance de notre campus, je crains que cela soit irréaliste considérant le nombre de futur médecin qui sont formés au campus Outaouais vs celui de Montréal. Ainsi, j’ai la chance d’avoir de bonnes capacités sociales et, par le biais d’implications ultérieures, de connaître beaucoup de membres du campus Montréal ce qui nous permettra de consolider les liens entre nos deux campus.

Bonjour cohorte 2026 ! Je suis plus que ravie de me présenter au poste de Présidente de Med-2. Comme certains d’entre vous le savez déjà, je suis une maman de 2 enfants, ergothérapeute et jusqu’à très récemment j’exerçais en tant que coordonnatrice de soins au sein d’une organisation de santé à Ottawa. Ces différents rôles m’ont toujours mis dans une position où les intérêts de l’autre, des patients étaient une priorité majeure dans mon quotidien. On peut dire que j’étais en quelque sorte le haut-parleur de ces derniers. 

Au cours de la dernière année, j’ai écouté plusieurs d’entre vous; nous avons partagés les mêmes défis, frustrations académiques et organisationnelles, et échangé sur des sujets fondamentaux à la cohorte. 

Aujourd’hui, je veux utiliser mon expérience et mon franc-parler pour vous représenter auprès de la faculté, du Conseil général, de la MSS afin que vos voix soient entendues, vos droits respectés, et vos opinions considérées lors des décisions vous concernant. 

Je compte agir sur trois points clés :

  • Un horaire plus équilibré et sain

 Le respect de nos pauses dîner, du temps des cours magistraux, et les multiples changements à l’horaire avec très peu de préavis ne devraient pas être une source d’inquiétude et de frustration pour les étudiants qui cherchent en permanence un équilibre en médecine. Si je suis élue Présidente de classe, je m’assurerai d’être en étroite communication avec l’administration et la/le VP académique au début de chaque bloc pour trouver et établir des stratégies organisationnelles, limitant les multiples fluctuations et la surcharge de l’horaire.

  • Améliorer la communication et le flux d’information entre la faculté, la MSS, et les étudiants. 

Une quantité énorme d’information circule en médecine. Au début de Med-2 j’effectuerai un sondage afin de déterminer le type d’information jugé pertinent pour la cohorte afin de centraliser le tout sur une plateforme commune (ex : page officielle Facebook) ; le groupe Messenger pourrait demeurer l’espace d’échanges non-officiels et moins pertinents par exemple. Aussi, dans un esprit de travail d’équipe j’établirai avec la/le VP académique et la/le VP social les responsabilités de chacun vis-à-vis des informations importantes de telle sorte que vous ne manquez absolument rien d’important.

  • Bâtir les ponts et briser les murs au sein de la cohorte. 

J’ai la vision d’une classe unie, dynamique, et fun où chaque étudiant évolue de façon souhaitée. Tout le monde devrait se sentir à l’aise de partager ses idées, commentaires, et sujets jugés pertinents. C’est pourquoi j’établirai une plateforme anonyme où chaque étudiant peut échanger librement. Cette plateforme servira d’outils pour cibler les sujets à discuter avec l’administration, la MSS et au Conseil général, et les activités jugées pertinents pour la classe.

Ces trois points ne sont qu’un début des actions que je compte entreprendre pour VOUS, bien d’autres seront à venir si vous m’élisez Présidente de classe. Votez Hélène Rukundo et découvrons une nouvelle perspective ensemble!

Pour faire le gros party j’aimerais aussi organiser des évènements en collaboration avec UOttawa et concrétiser notre relation, afin de nous permettre de rencontrer des gens d’ici ! Finalement, je m’engage à continuer la tradition qui est notre ligue sportive à l’UQO et vous faire découvrir la région de l’Outaouais à travers des évènements sociaux !

C’est avec grand plaisir que je me présente pour devenir votre président M3 pour l’année scolaire 2023-2024. Depuis l’automne 2022, j’ai le privilège de m’impliquer au sien de la MSS comme président de classe et président exécutif du Campus Outaouais. Ces postes m’ont permis de gagner de l’expérience en matière de gestion de dossiers académiques, sociaux et financiers. Je veux m’impliquer pour pouvoir vous représenter au sein de l’administration et être un agent de changement au Campus. Trois points résument ma plateforme :

La communication

Je m’engage à mettre en place des outils de communication pour mieux réponde à vos questionnements, mieux connaître vos besoins, plaidoyer pour vos droits et vous représenter au sein de l’administration. Je vais être en constante communication avec vous pour vous transmettre les messages de l’administration

La collaboration

Je m’engage à collaborer avec les membres des conseils de classe du Campus Outaouais ainsi qu’avec les membres exécutifs des campus d’Outaouais dans les projets et les activités qui bénéficient les étudiants de notre cohorte. 

La proactivité

Finalement, je m’engage à travailler avec la Faculté pour trouver des solutions aux problèmes que les étudiants font face. Je vais continuer les journaux hebdomadaires, créer des outils de communication et favoriser les activités de cohorte.

Bref, je crois qu’ensemble nous pouvons rendre cette prochaine année inoubliable.

Supporter la voix des étudiant.e.s

Tout d’abord, en M4, deux choses seront très importantes pour tout le monde: applications CaRMS et stages à option. Comme je l’ai toujours fait, je m’engage à être votre voix auprès de la faculté concernant toute question ou demande par rapport à ces deux sujets. Je continuerai à assister aux différentes rencontres facultaires et à avoir une communication constante avec notre administrateur.rice de volet. Un autre point que je compte amener cette année c’est le lieu de la cérémonie de graduation. C’est un sujet d’intérêt pour plusieurs étudiants, et je m’assurerai de défendre l’opinion de la majorité. Enfin, je vais m’assurer d’être proactif en restant en contact étroit avec le bureau SOURCES et la MSS pour prioriser le bien-être des étudiant.e.s tout au long des applications CaRMS.

Améliorer la communication avec la cohorte

Cette année, j’aimerais recommencer à vous envoyer des courriels réguliers. La raison pour laquelle j’ai cessé de le faire régulièrement en M3 c’est parce que je jugeais qu’on avait toute l’info dont on avait besoin dans l’Info-MDCM et lors des multiples Town Halls que la faculté préparait avec les présidents de classe. Je voulais éviter de vous surcharger de courriels. Par contre, je réalise que le bulletin hebdomadaire est important pour vous garder constamment à l’affût des dates limites à venir et pour vous rappeler des évènements à venir, particulièrement ceux reliés à CaRMS. Je compte donc recommencer à envoyer le bulletin hebdomadaire, même si celui-ci est simplement une répétition de la version de la semaine précédente. La régularité des courriels vous assurera de ne jamais rien manquer.

Assurer une belle fin de programme

La période post-CaRMS sera un gros soulagement pour tout le monde. En collaboration avec notre rép social de class, mon idée serait d’allouer la majorité de notre budget à cette partie de l’année parce qu’on sera tous présents à Gatineau et on aura tous du temps et de l’énergie pour participer aux activités sociales. Pour ce qui est de notre Grad Ball, je vais collaborer étroitement avec notre rép social de classe et avec la MSS pour nous trouver des sponsors pour l’évènement. Mon idée serait de faire un grand souper ici en Outaouais à une date différente de Montréal afin de pouvoir rejoindre nos collègues de Montréal pour une cérémonie commune à la même date, en collaboration avec le conseil de classe de Montréal. Pour ce qui est de la cérémonie de dévoilement du match CaRMS, je vous sonderai quant à votre volonté de la faire à Montréal ou à Gatineau, mais l’idée reste la même : célébrer notre réussite méritée ensemble !

Advocating on behalf of students

First, in M4, two things will be very important for everyone: CaRMS applications and electives. As I have always done, I am committed to being your voice within the faculty regarding any questions or requests related to these two subjects. I will continue to attend the various faculty meetings and to have constant communication with our component administrator. Another point that I intend to bring forward early on this year is the location of the graduation ceremony. This is a topic of interest to many students, and I will make sure to defend the majority’s opinion. Finally, I will make sure to be proactive about student well-being during CaRMS applications by staying in close contact with the WELL office and the MSS for their support to our class.

Improving communication with the cohort

This year, I would like to start sending you regular emails again. The reason why I stopped doing it regularly in M3 is because I felt that we had all the information we needed in the Info-MDCM and during the multiple Town Halls that the faculty prepared with the class presidents. I wanted to avoid overloading you with emails. However, I realize that the weekly newsletter is important to keep you constantly on the lookout for upcoming deadlines and to remind you of upcoming events, particularly those related to CaRMS. I therefore intend to start sending the weekly newsletter again, even if this is simply a repeat of the previous week’s version. The regularity of emails will ensure you never miss a thing.

Ensuring a pleasant end to the program

The post-CaRMS period will be a big relief for everyone. In collaboration with our class social rep, my idea would be to allocate the majority of our budget to this part of the year because we will all be present in Gatineau and we will all have time and energy to participate in social activities. As for our Grad Ball, I will be working closely with our class social rep and the MSS to find us sponsors for the event. My idea would be to hold a big dinner here in Gatineau on a different date from Montreal so that we can join our colleagues in Montreal for a common ceremony on the same date, in collaboration with the Montreal class council. As for the ceremony of the CaRMS match, I intend to poll you regarding whether you would like it to happen in Montreal or in Gatineau, but the idea remains the same: celebrate our deserved success together!

Je soumets ma candidature en tant que Représentante de Classe des Med-4 du Campus Outaouais pour l’année à venir. Ce serait un honneur pour moi de travailler auprès de cette cohorte pour rassembler les étudiants et défendre leurs intérêts. Lors de mon mandat, je me concentrerais sur les trois points suivants :

Communication 

En tant qu’étudiants avec des horaires chargés, il est essentiel de pouvoir se fier sur des moyens de communication efficaces avec les représentants de classe. Que ce soit pour recevoir des commentaires/inquiétudes ou bien transmettre des informations, je m’engage à être accessible, fiable et à l’écoute des besoins des étudiants de notre cohorte. Je miserai aussi sur la communication avec le/la président.e de classe pour enligner nos objectifs, les représentants des autres cohortes pour collaborer sur des projets ainsi qu’avec la faculté pour la défense de nos intérêts. 

Support

Ce n’est pas un secret pour personne, notre dernière année en médecine sera éprouvante pour nous tous. Elle entrainera des changements de milieux fréquents, une diminution du support social et surtout beaucoup d’anxiété entourant le processus d’application à la résidence. Je m’engage alors fournir un support fiable et constant aux élèves de notre cohorte lors de cette période plus difficile. Que ce soit un au niveau académique, administratif ou personnel, je m’engage à travailler avec vous ainsi qu’avec la faculté pour trouver des ressources et des solutions rapidement pour répondre à vos besoins et préoccupations. 

Nos derniers moments

Il va de soi qu’à partir de l’an prochain, notre temps en tant qu’étudiants en médecine sera compté. Il sera donc important pour moi d’organiser des activités pour profiter de nos derniers moments ensemble en tant que cohorte avant que nos chemins se séparent. Au cours des dernières années, nous avons traversé de rudes épreuves, créé des liens uniques avec nos collègues et évolués grandement en tant que personnes. Je crois alors que nous méritons une fin de parcours digne de mention et je m’engage à faire de mon mieux pour terminer le tout sur une bonne note.

I am presenting my nomination as Campus Outaouais’s Med-4 Class Representative for the upcoming year. It would be an honour for me to bring students together as well as to advocate for the needs of this cohort. During my mandate, I would focus on the following three points:

Communication

As students with busy schedules, it is essential to be able to rely on effective means of communication with class representatives. Whether it is to receive comments/concerns or to transmit information, I am committed to being accessible, reliable and attentive to the needs of the students in our cohort. I will also establish meaningful communication with the class president to align our objectives, representatives of other cohorts to collaborate on projects, and with the faculty to defend our interests.

Support

It’s no secret that our last year in medicine will be trying for all of us. It will lead to frequent changes of scenery, changes in our support systems and above all, generate a lot of anxiety surrounding the application process for residency. I am therefore committed to providing reliable and constant support to the students of this cohort during this difficult period. Whether it be academic, administrative, or personal, I plan on working with you as well as with the faculty to quickly provide solutions and resources to meet your needs and concerns.

Our Last Moments

It goes without saying that starting next year, our time as medical students will be counted. Therefore, it is important to me to organize gatherings and enjoy our last moments together as a cohort before parting ways. Over the past few years, we have gone through difficult times, created unique bonds with our colleagues and evolved greatly as people. I therefore believe that we deserve recognition for our efforts, and I pledge to do my best to end our journey on a high note.

Lorsque nous continuons notre cheminement en externat vers la graduation, nous ferons invariablement face à de nouveaux défis et certains que nous avons peut-être déjà relevés. En tant que représentant de classe, je chercherais, avec le président, à défendre les besoins et les intérêts des élèves de notre classe. J’ai de grandes attentes pour notre éducation et notre vie étudiante et je suis à l’aise d’être la voix des étudiants auprès de la faculté.

As we continue our journey through clerkship twoards, we will invariably face new challenges and some we may have already dealt with. As class representative, I would seek to, along with the president, advocate for the needs and interests of the students in our class. I have high expectations for our education and student life and I am comfortable being a voice for students with the faculty.

Continuité dans la MSS / Continuity within the MSS

En tant que l’ancien Représentant de classe Med3 et Vice-président exécutif et finances de la MSS Campus Outaouais, j’ai acquis de l’expérience en ce qui concerne être membre de la MSS. J’ai de l’expérience dans l’organisation d’événements, notamment des évènements avec des commanditaires, et dans la gestion d’un budget. Ce sont des compétences qui seront également nécessaires considérablement dans le rôle de représentant de classe. De plus, je pense qu’il sera utile d’avoir une certaine continuité au sein du Conseil général alors que la MSS Outaouais continue de s’établir. 

As the outgoing Med3 class representative and MSS Executive Vice-President & Finances for Campus Outaouais, I have gained experience as to what it means to be a member of the MSS. I have experience organizing events, particularly sponsored ones, and managing a budget. These are skills which will overlap considerably in the role of class representative. Furthermore, I feel that it will be helpful to have some degree of continuity on General Council as the MSS Outaouais continues to get established.

J’espère pouvoir continuer à organiser des événements similaires pour notre classe en tant que représentants de classe et veiller à ce que ces événements soient amusants et accessibles pour tous les élèves. De plus, les contacts que j’ai établis en tant que représentant de classe et vice-président peuvent s’avérer utiles pour obtenir des commandites pour des événements et réduire les frais de participation des étudiants.

I hope to continue to be able to host similar events for our class as class representatives and ensure that these events are fun and accessible for all students. Additionally, contacts I have made as class rep and VP may prove useful in securing sponsorships for events and lowering attendance costs for students.

Je suis Hongda Li et je suis heureux d’appliquer pour la position de président exécutif MSS CO pour l’année scolaire 2023-2024. Je m’implique fortement aux activités organisées par le MSS, et je décide de faire ma part pour améliorer la vie étudiante. Représenter le campus est une grande responsabilité, et je suis persuadé de travailler pour le bien-être des étudiants et gestionner le temps entre l’externat et le MSS.  

J’espère de remplir ces trois rôles comme un président :

  1. Aider pour les étudiants (Engagement académique)

Je m’engage à collaborer très étroitement avec tous les étudiants, les membres des conseils et les autres membres de MSS pour améliorer l’expérience académique de FFMDD, TPC, et l’externat. Je vais assurer une excellente expérience d’apprentissage adaptée pour les besoins de tous les étudiants.

Je m’engage à créer un environnement agréable qui respecte la bien-être des étudiants. Je m’engage à minimiser les stress liés à la charge de travail, le changement de l’horaire, l’évaluation des cours, et les examens. Pour le faire, je dois assurer une claire communication entre le campus et les étudiants. En représentant les étudiants en générale, je vais assurer que la voix et les commentaires concernant du campus adressera à la faculté pour que le campus comprendre ce que les étudiants à vraiment besoin. Je vais présenter tous les commentaires et suggestions à l’administration, défendre le les intérêts des étudiants devant la Faculté et travailler pour une solution mutuelle. De plus, en collaborant avec les conseils de la classe, je vais informer les étudiants des dates clés, discuter leurs opinions liées aux cours et passer les messages rapidement à l’administration. 

Toutefois, je vais écouter tous les rétroactions des étudiants, je vais créer une plateforme qui permet aux étudiants de soumettre leur commentaire (anonyme ou avec le nom) concernant au cours.

Voici quelques projets que j’ai en tête:

Francisation des cours : 

Je m’engage de former un comité des étudiants qui traduisent les PowerPoint avec une plus grande précision. Le comité travaillera très étroitement avec la Faculté et je vais plaidoyer une rémunération pour leur effort. 

Collection et classification des ressources académiques: 

En collaborant avec les VP académique et les étudiants de différentes cohortes, je vais trouver des ressources académiques pour mieux préparer le FFMMD et le TPC, y compris les notes sommaires, les Anki (traduit en français), et les questions pratiques. De plus, je m’engage à trouver des ressources anglophones pour les étudiants qui veulent préparer l’USMLE après son FFMMD. 

Opportunité de recherche/jumelage des étudiants : 

En discutant avec la Faculté, je m’engage de fournir plus d’opportunité aux étudiants de jumeler avec les médicines spécialisés au Ottawa et également trouver de projets de recherche qui améliorent la connaissance de chaque spécialité qu’ils intéressent.

Meilleures ressources pour les externats : 

Je m’engage de communiquer et collaborer avec les présidents de conseils M3 et M4 pour trouver une solution aux problèmes face au choix de cours élective et l’application de CARMS. En travaillant avec le président de classe, je vais faciliter l’accès aux différents sites de blocs électives et trouver des fournisseurs fiables pour la traduction des documents d’application de la résidence.

  1. Plaidoyer pour le campus Outaouais 

Le campus outaouais sera un campus unique et une plateforme pour tous les étudiants de bâtir et poursuivre leur intérêt. Toutefois, je trouve une nécessité d’avoir un CO autonome et indépendant en gardant une collaboration étroite avec le campus Montréal. J’espère que les étudiants ont non seulement une place pour ses intérêts mais aussi des opportunités de participer avec les autres organisations. 

Je vais plaidoyer pour :  

Rôle de gouvernance : 

Je m’engage à clarifier le rôle et la représentation de chaque membre de MSS. Je m’engage à responsabiliser les membres de leur rôle et leur travail dans les événements, les comités, et les conférences. Je vais assurer un équilibre de rôle et une balance des pouvoir, qui sert à augmenter l’efficacité de MSS et mieux respecter les besoins des chaque groupes d’intérêts. 

Amélioration de l’éducation CO : 

Je m’engage à améliorer le programme d’éducation en travaillant avec le comité d’éducation. Je m’en profiter de la petite taille de campus et la région de Gatineau pour une meilleure organisation des cours adaptée pour les étudiants. 

Plus d’activités des clubs d’intérêt : 

Avec les ressources de MSS, je m’engage à aider les responsables des clubs ou groupes d’intérêt basé au CO d’organiser plus d’événements. Également, je vais faciliter la collaboration entre les clubs d’intérêts et les organisations à but non lucratif pour travailler la santé communautaire.

Meilleure opportunité pour les étudiants d’outaouais : 

Je m’engage à discuter avec le MSS du campus Montréal pour assurer qu’ils offertes plus de positions et des événements plus accessibles aux étudiants d’Outaouais. Par exemple, on va encourager les événements pendant les jours libres (ou sans activité obligatoire) afin de permettre les étudiants de déplacer entre les deux campus. 

Meilleur espace d’étude pour les étudiants : 

En vue que le campus sera dans son capacité avec l’arrivée de la nouvelle cohorte, je m’engage à créer plus d’espace accessible pour les étudiants. Par exemple, je vais plaidoyer pour l’accès de la bibliothèque de l’hôpital de Gatineau pour les étudiants qui ont besoin une espace tranquille. 

  1. Planifier des loisirs pour l’amusement des étudiants.

La vie étudiante ne doit pas comprendre seulement les études, mais des activités pour le bien-être. Je vise à continuer d’organiser les événements sociaux en collaborant avec le VP bien-être et le VP social. 

Budget 2024 et la transparence financière: 

En travaillant avec le VP finance, je vais assurer une transparence de l’utilisation de budget pour les dépenses et les événements. Je vise à trouver un site clair et accessible afin que les étudiants puissent savoir combien et comment l’on a dépensé notre budget pour les différentes activités.  

Planification des événements : 

Je m’engage à continuer les événements sociaux pour l’année 2024, y compris la Frosh 2024, la partie Halloween, les sorties de ski, l’escalade, le patinage, le drafting, le go karting, les laser tag, etc. Les événements seront organisés en 1-3 mois en avance par un comité d’événement sociale. Et on va discuter avec les étudiants par rapporte à l’intérêt général, la date, le coût de billet, le nombre des étudiants, le mode de transport, etc. De plus, je vais discuter avec le MSS Montréal pour réserver une nombre des billets pour les étudiants de CO pour les événements afin que les étudiants intéressés aient une chance de participer. Toutefois, je m’engager à écouter aux suggestions des étudiants afin de créer des activités qui sont fun et inoubliable au cours de notre éducation en Médicine.

Je crois que le plus grand défi est la responsabilité d’assurer un fonctionnement efficace de MSS pour les étudiants. Cependant, je me suis prêt à travailler avec tous ce que je peux et collaborer avec mes camarades pour une mémoire inoubliable.

En tant que présidente, je m’engage à remplir tous les rôles de mon mandat, et d’aller encore plus loin. C’est-à-dire, je compte bien représenter le campus au sein de comités, m’impliquer dans l’organisation des activités du campus, ainsi de suite. Lors de ma campagne j’aimerais présenter aux membres du campus Outaouais, mes objectifs réalistes qui rendront l’éducation, l’expérience, et la vie sociale au campus Outaouais meilleure. 

L’entraide est indispensable à notre réussite

Il y a beaucoup de défis qui viennent avec un nouveau campus comme le nôtre; des difficultés que je compte surmonter avec les membres de la MSS. Notamment, l’amélioration de la francisation des power points et la meilleure organisation de nos horaires sont deux exemples d’aspects, parmi tant d’autres, que je tiens à cœur. En restant en contact proche avec tous les membres des conseils de classes et du conseil exécutif, je m’engage à écouter et à chercher des solutions à nos problèmes. 

D’autre part, la nouveauté de notre campus, notre proximité à l’hôpital, et notre petit nombre d’étudiants, nous permet de lancer nos propres initiatives. Il est important de profiter de ces opportunités et pour se faire je veux entendre vos idées et les soutenir! Je veux informer tous les étudiants davantage par rapport aux actions de la MSS, ainsi que les ressources et l’aide que les différents membres peuvent fournir. Bref, je tiens à favoriser le travail d’équipe et une communication continue entre les membres de la MSS et les étudiants.   

L’opportunité de tisser des liens entre les étudiants

Je tiens absolument à aider à organiser des activités pour les élèves des quatre années. Encore une fois, en travaillant avec les autres membres du conseil exécutif et avec les conseils de classes, je veux favoriser une belle atmosphère et cohésion entre les étudiants des différentes cohortes. Ainsi, ils pourront s’entraider entre eux et partager leurs idées! 

D’ailleurs je veux instaurer le rôle de Vice-Président Social exécutif pour le campus Outaouais pour les années qui suivent. Ceci permettra l’organisation de plus d’activités pour les étudiants de toutes les cohortes et nous permettre de tisser davantage de liens.  

J’ai appris énormément lors de ma dernière année en tant que Vice-Président Académique de la classe de premières années. J’ai appris l’importance de l’écoute, la collaboration, et comment mieux organiser mon temps. Je suis aussi plus à l’aise de travailler avec l’administration, je connais mieux leur fonctionnement, et ce à quoi elle s’attend des étudiants. Pour conclure, tout au long de l’année, je serai disponible au campus, que ce soit entre les cours, ou à l’heure du diner pour discuter, ou simplement socialiser. Ainsi, je pourrai prendre connaissance de vos inquiétudes et de vos idées pour vous soutenir le mieux possible en travaillant de pair avec la MSS.  

As the executive vice president and finances for the Outaouais Campus of the Society, my top priority would be to manage all funds in accordance with the MSS’ policies and bylaws. This would involve developing and implementing a sound financial management system to ensure that all financial transactions are transparent, accountable, and well-documented. I believe that securing large sponsorships for the Outaouais Campus would be a critical component of our financial success. To that end, I will work to develop and update a sponsorship kit that can be distributed to past and potential sponsors. Additionally, I will facilitate the solicitation of large sponsors for all MSS clubs, events, organizations, publications, and class councils, while ensuring the proper application of the MSS Sponsorship Policy. 

I recognize that as the executive vice president and finances, I have a responsibility to aid the Outaouais Executive President in the accomplishment of all presidential duties, and to fulfill these duties if the president is rendered incapable of doing so. Additionally, I am prepared to assume the function and title of the Outaouais Executive President if the president were to resign or become incapable of fulfilling the duties of the presidency.

  •  Discuter avec les campus délocalisés de leurs politiques internes pour protéger et promouvoir la voix des étudiants au sein même de notre Université.

Représenter la MSS au sein de la FMEQ

  • Représenter les intérêts et les préoccupations de la MSS sur les enjeux qui touchent toutes les facultés de médecine, tel que les CaRMS et la valorisation de la médecine familiale.  
  • Faire rayonner l’implication des étudiants de la MSS et particulièrement ceux du campus Outaouais en partageant nos accomplissements à l’intérieur même du campus et dans la communauté.
  • Maintenir des relations étroites et harmonieuses avec les autres campus.

Représenter la MSS et le campus Outaouais dans la région

  • Renforcer les liens avec l’association des étudiants en médecine de l’Université d’Ottawa et avec l’association étudiante de l’UQO.
  • Représenter le campus Outaouais dans les événements de la région.
  • Promouvoir le campus Outaouais au sein des futurs étudiants en médecine en offrant une journée d’immersion dans la vie d’un étudiant du campus Outaouais.
  • Créer une vidéo promotionnelle du campus

Ressources: Il ne faut pas s’arrêter à l’abonnement Osmosis de la FMEQ… Que diriez-vous de plaider pour un abonnement à un atlas d’anatomie 3D, des notes d’externat, des banques de questions comme Uworld ou Amboss, et des ressources CARMS pour améliorer à la fois votre réussite préclinique et clinique.
  3. Advocate/Plaidoyer: Il s’agit de faire entendre VOTRE voix dans les discussions avec d’autres facultés de médecine de la province et du Canada par le biais de sondages, d’entretiens individuels et d’enquêtes sur des questions importantes pour vous représenter dans les discussions.

  3. Advocacy: It is about bringing YOUR voices to discussions with other medical faculties across the province and in Canada  through polls, 1-on-1s and surveys on important issues to represent you in discussions.

Why am I passionate about being your VP external? 

It all comes down to improving the ORA of the campus:

Did you know that the Canadian Federation of Medical Students offers the opportunity to do research projects and clinical exchanges abroad? Did you know that McGill students have been able to receive grants from the CFMS ranging from $1500-3000 for their student clubs and initiatives? Did you know that the FMEQ has numerous projects so you can get involved and shine?  How about being part of the National Day of Action, an opportunity to join over 100s of medical students at parliament hill to advocate for better senior care, free contraceptives, and other issues on the national stage?  

I am here to help not only share these opportunities with you, but actively advocate for programs that can help support your personal and academic success. 

  1. Resources 

I ADORE Osmosis, and you probably do too…but did you know Osmosis normally costs over 400$ a year? However, it is FREE to medical students due to FMEQ’s osmosis subscription! I would love to open the conversation to expand resources to give student’s access to Virtual Anatomy Atlas and even world renown TCP/Clerkship resources such as a subscription to question banks like UWorld and Amboss!

Moreover, McGill has few clerkship notes or study guides for our second and third years. A possible collaboration with other medical schools could get us access to incredible tools for our future clerical years. 

Lastly, we’re all worried about CARMS and residency matches, so it is amazing that both the CFMS and FMEQ have crafted a myriad of guides, interview preparation, and other resources at your disposal. There is also a CARMS day organized to meet residents who’ve matched in different specialties, and many discussions at the association level regarding the CARMS process. As a small campus, I believe it is essential to fight for our ability to have the best and fairest chance at the match!  

  1. Advocacy 

In the end, this position is about bringing YOUR voices to discussions with other medical faculties across the province and in Canada. What are your opinions? I would love to elicit your opinions through polls, 1-on-1s and surveys on important issues to represent you in discussions with other delocalized campuses and find solutions.

J’aimerais ouvrir la conversation pour élargir les ressources afin de donner aux étudiants l’accès à l’Atlas d’anatomie virtuelle et même à des ressources TCP/Clerkship de renommée mondiale, telles qu’un abonnement à des banques de questions comme UWorld et Amboss! 

De plus, McGill a peu de notes d’externat ou de guides d’étude pour nos deuxième et troisième années. Une éventuelle collaboration avec d’autres facultés de médecine pourrait nous donner accès à des outils incroyables pour nos futures années cléricales. 

Enfin, nous sommes tous préoccupés par le CARMS et les jumelages de résidence, il est donc AMAZING que le CFMS et la FMEQ aient conçu une myriade de guides, de préparation aux entrevues et d’autres ressources à votre disposition. Il y a aussi une journée CARMS organisée pour rencontrer les résidents jumelés dans différentes spécialités, et de nombreuses discussions au niveau associatif concernant le processus CARMS. En tant que petit campus, je crois qu’il est essentiel de se battre pour notre capacité à avoir la meilleure et la plus juste chance au match! 

  1. Plaidoyer: En fin de compte, ce poste consiste à faire entendre VOTRE voix dans les discussions avec d’autres facultés de médecine de la province et du Canada. Quelles sont vos opinions? J’aimerais obtenir vos opinions à travers des sondages, des 1-on-1 et des enquêtes sur des questions importantes pour vous représenter dans les discussions avec d’autres campus délocalisés et trouver des solutions. 

J’attends avec impatience ce que la saison de la campagne apportera!

Bonjour à tous et à toutes!

Je m’appelle Lily Fakhouri et je suis étudiante en Med-2. J’ai le plaisir de me présenter aux élections comme candidate au poste de Vice-présidente Éducation Médicale.

Le poste de Vice-présidente Éducation Médicale est un poste auquel j’attribue une grande importance pour plusieurs raisons.
En Med-1, j’ai été la représentante académique de la cohorte 2025. Pendant cette période, j’ai été présente aux rencontres avec la faculté qui portaient sur la qualité de l’éducation médicale. J’ai également siégé au sein du comité d’éducation médicale (EdCom) en Med-1 en tant que représentante académique et en Med-2 en tant que représentante de PECO. Ces expériences m’ont conférée une passion pour l’éducation médicale à McGill et plus particulièrement au campus Outaouais.

En tant que vice-présidente d’éducation médicale, je voudrais d’abord militer au sein de la faculté pour améliorer l’expérience médicale au campus Outaouais aux trois niveaux (FFMMD, TPC et externat). Nous avons tous eu des problèmes que ce soit au niveau des horaires difficiles, des cours qui ne finissent pas toujours à l’heure ou des questions par rapport au programme auxquelles on n’a aucune réponse. J’aimerais collaborer avec la faculté pour qu’on puisse trouver des solutions ensemble et pour qu’on puisse contribuer la meilleure possible expérience pour les étudiants qui sont au campus Outaouais.

Mon deuxième plan de projet concerne les ressources académiques en français suivant le travail de Sarah Moussa, VP Med Ed pendant l’année 2022-2023. Sarah avait commencé à collaborer avec l’université d’Ottawa pour qu’on ait accès à leurs ressources d’étude en français. La majorité des ressources existantes auxquelles on a accès sont disponibles uniquement en anglais, ce qui est problématique pour nos étudiants qui sont plus confortables en français (que ce soit ici ou à Montréal). Il faut qu’on poursuive ce travail de développement de ressources en français pour qu’on puisse encourager nos collègues francophones autant que possible.

Le troisième projet principal que je veux accomplir concerne le comité d’éducation médicale (EdCom). Ce comité consiste en plusieurs étudiants qui siègent au sein des différents comités du programme UGME. Le travail de vice-présidente d’éducation médicale inclut de présider sur le comité d’éducation médicale. C’est un comité qui permet de faire entendre la voix étudiante au sein de la faculté, un aspect extrêmement important dans l’amélioration continue du curriculum médical. J’espère pouvoir soutenir les projets des représentants étudiants dans le comité d’éducation médicale et d’être présente pour aider nos collègues au campus Outaouais et aussi au campus Montréal.

La corrélation entre l’activité physique et une amélioration de la santé mentale est bien établie dans la littérature. Ainsi, j’aimerais offrir aux étudiants l’occasion d’intégrer l’activité physique dans leur horaire d’une façon prévisible pour favoriser l’établissement d’habitudes saines. J’ai la vision d’organiser des activités qui sont accessibles à tous et qui permettraient l’établissement de connexions entre étudiants des diverses cohortes. Comme VP Bien-être, j’aimerais renforcer les projets des étudiants, comme la ligue de volleyball. Je reste à l’écoute pour toutes idées et serais ravi de travailler pour renforcer vos projets bien-être.

Adresser les problèmes qui touchent la vie de tous les jours au campus et plaidoyer pour le bien-être des étudiants en Outaouais au sein du MSS et l’administration.

Le bien-être est un enjeu de tous les jours. Un environnement positif où les étudiants se sentent en sécurité, à l’aise et prêts à participer aux activités pédagogiques et extra-scolaires est primordial dans notre mission de promouvoir la bien-être des étudiants. Donc, je servirai comme liaison entre les élèves et l’administration pour présenter les enjeux les plus importants qui menacent le bien-être de tous les étudiants. Certains enjeux que j’ai déjà identifiés comme étant important pour le campus incluent : les horaires chargés et qui sont changés à la dernière minute, un manque d’espace d’étude et un manque total d’espace privé. J’ai hâte de travailler avec tous mes collègues de classe pour trouver ceux qui les inquiets et d’élaborer des solutions.

Coordonner avec le bureau SOURCE pour assurer que les activités de bien-être soient dynamiques, pertinentes et offertes à des heures qui conviennent à tous les étudiants.

Pour commencer, je serais à l’écoute des étudiants pour mieux connaitre leurs attentes envers les activités bien-être du bureau SOURCE. Ensuite, mon objectif primaire serais de m’assurer que les évènements du bureau SOURCE sont un lieu où les étudiants peuvent amener leurs inquiétudes et trouver des solutions pratiques aux vrais problèmes auxquels ils font face. Pour faciliter la participation, je m’engagerais à communiquer directement avec le bureau source pour planifier les sessions durant des plages horaires raisonnables, tout en respectant leur temps de repos.

Je m’appelle Peter et je suis un étudiant de 2e année au Campus Outaouais. Je suis très excité de soumettre ma candidature pour renouveler mon poste de représentant de l’université de la MSS Outaouais pour l’année 2023-2024.

Ma plateforme repose sur 3 principes : le plaidoyer au nom des étudiants du campus Outaouais, l’accessibilité et l’engagement.

Plaidoyer au nom des étudiants du Campus Outaouais :

Comme représentant de l’université de la MSS Outaouais, un but serait de complètement régler le problème des frais déboursés pour les installations sportives du campus, puisque la plupart des étudiants n’utilisent pas les installations de UQO. Bien que les frais pour les installations sportives soient plus petits que l’année passée, cette année, je vais m’assurer de les rendre complètement optionnels. Ensuite, mon deuxième but serait de regarder avec la SSMU comment changer ou adapter la politique de santé SSMU pour que ça puisse bénéficier encore plus les étudiants à Gatineau. 

Accessibilité:

Pour moi, il est primordial que chaque étudiant puisse exprimer ce qu’ils pensent réellement facilement, pour que je puisse représenter les étudiants du campus de la meilleure façon. Pour cette raison, en plus de venir me parler directement, à travers des moyens de communication anonymes comme Google Forms, les étudiants pourraient partager leur rétroaction sur mon travail ainsi que leurs inquiétudes ou problèmes en lien avec le SSMU ou le Sénat, ou tout autre problème que je pourrais rediriger vers la ressource appropriée.

Engagement :

Finalement, en plus de m’engager dans le SSMU et le Sénat, j’aiderais les autres membres du conseil dans leurs responsabilités sociales dans le but de renforcer le sentiment d’appartenance chez les étudiants du campus Outaouais et, de manière générale, développer un meilleur campus.

Hello, 

My name is Eddy Taguedong, and I’m running to be your VP Global Health Sr. I grew up in Cameroon, Africa, playing football with my cousins, farming with my grandmother, and basking in the amazing street food the country has to offer. Although I grew to love and appreciate my culture, exposure to what poor access to health looked like profoundly resonated with me. As I have embarked on my academic journey in Canada, witnessing systemic racism and the consequences this imparts on the health experiences of vulnerable populations, especially in low-resource settings, has developed my idea of health inequity. Currently, I work as coordinator of a mentorship program for black youth where witnessing barriers to education for people of color has further driven my passion for this type of work. As VP of Global Health, I am eager to help bring awareness to such issues that prevail in our society by focusing on the following: 

  1. Expanding on communication and engaging students in global health
  • Increasing our social media presence–The MSS Global health committee is involved in many special projects and collaborations that offer students the opportunity to get involved in global health. As such, it is important for these opportunities to be well communicated via social platforms so that students are aware of them. I hope to help expand our presence on social media  platforms like Instagram and Facebook.
  • Introducing a listserv for students to subscribe to– A listserv is a means of communicating with a group via email. On this listserv, we would regularly highlight global health opportunities, events, members of the global health community and current global health issues so students are again more aware and immersed in global health.
  • Developing a global health subcommittee that is focused on mentorship–This mentorship program would pair students interested in global health with other students or professionals with experience in the field.
  1. Fostering increased collaboration amongst healthcare professionals and other student groups for global health

As future health care professionals, regardless of our specialities, I believe it is important to have an understanding of global health and the social determinants of health. To bridge the gap between global health and medicine, I hope to collaborate more with other MSS interest groups and other healthcare professional groups on events that help students gain more insight into how they can get involved in global health work in their medical career.

  1. Highlighting local and global issues that especially affect black and indigenous populations in the context of global health 

As VP Global health, I hope to use my platform to especially advocate for global health initiatives pertaining to black and indigenous populations in both the local and global context. Via collaboration, I hope to help highlight these initiatives and help increase their overall visibility.

Born and raised in Montreal as an Algerian Canadian, I have always been passionate about understanding the human mind and making a lasting impact in people’s lives. This passion drove me to pursue my undergraduate degree in health psychology and neuroscience, followed by graduate studies in psychophysiology in Ottawa.

Like many of you, I have faced numerous challenges and transitions throughout my academic journey. As a first-generation medical student, I have learned the importance of resilience, adaptability, and the value of a supportive community. My diverse experiences coordinating and managing large projects with international teams have equipped me with the necessary skills to excel as your next VP of Internal Affairs. Now more than ever, we are aware of the impact of different health policies on the health of  Canadians. Many health policies have a direct effect on the health of Canadians, with some  populations disproportionally affected. Many also suffer multiple forms of discrimination due to  these policies. As health professionals, we have a responsibility to be not only aware of different  issues that communities face but also of changes that can be made at the provincial and federal  levels, as well as ways that we can advocate for changes in our communities to create safer and  healthier environments. 

My goal as government affairs & advocacy officer would be to create opportunities for students  to work together and discuss different health policy issues as well as create a platform to  facilitate these discussions. I want to empower students by making them aware of the recent  issues affecting the health of specific populations in Canada, particularly vulnerable populations  specifically racialized groups, Indigenous people, immigrants, and others. I also want us to  recognize the impact we can have on health policy to bring change for healthier communities.
