About the Club

McGill Feminism in Medicine (FIM) provides a safe, inclusive, and constructive environment to discuss gender-based issues in healthcare professions. The past several decades has seen a rise in medical school attendance and matriculation by women-identifying students, and an increase in sensitivity towards the psychosocial needs of medical professionals of all genders. However, all healthcare professionals, no matter their gender identity, still face specific challenges during their education and practice including gender-based discrimination, micro-aggression and sexual harassment, as well as unequal opportunities for career development. Facing these everyday challenges alone negatively impacts both the professional and personal lives of students. The goal of FIM is to shed light on these individual struggles. Using workshops, facilitated discussions, and guest speakers, FIM aims to help healthcare professionals develop strategies to address gender-based problems. These skills will play a role in creating better environments for both learning and clinical practice. Over time, we hope to engage all students in healthcare professions in this dialogue to create a generation of leaders capable of recognizing and addressing gender-based issues.
