About the club
Hey Everyone and Welcome to the CGSTA Club page! We are so excited about the Launch of the McGill Chapter of CGSTA and can’t wait to take you with us to explore this field inside out and learn more about how it can be integrated into our practice. What’s CGSTA? The Canadian Global Surgery Trainees’ Alliance (CGSTA) is a national global surgery organization in Canada, affiliated with the International Student Surgical Network – InciSioN. We aim to create a network to inspire, educate and engage medical students in global surgery advocacy, research, and other initiatives. We have many events, journal clubs, and a Conference to come, so don’t forget to join us our Facebook group to stay in the loop: https://www.facebook.com/groups/285012706608660 Why Global Surgery? There is a need to improve health and health equity for over 5 billion people around the world affected by surgical conditions or that need surgical care, with a particular focus on underserved populations and populations in crisis. Persistent rural surgery and disparities in the Northern and Indigenous communities. Need to build networks for collaboration, education, and advocacy across Canada to foster discussion about sustainable solutions to address this need for surgical care. If you want to learn more about this field, we highly recommend this short (2 min) video, which introduces some of the key points of The Lancet Commission on Global Surgery. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRf8PbQgjGU&t=120s
