About the club

Welcome to the CGSTA Club page! The Canadian Global Surgery Trainees’ Alliance (CGSTA) is a national global surgery organization in Canada, affiliated with the International Student Surgical Network – InciSioN. We aim to create a network to inspire, educate and engage medical students in global surgery advocacy, research, and other initiatives. Why Global Surgery? There is a need to improve health and health equity for over 5 billion people around the world affected by surgical conditions or that need surgical care, with a particular focus on underserved populations across the globe as well as local populations, including Northern and Indigenous communities. If you want to learn more about this field, we highly recommend this short (2 min) video, which introduces some of the key points of The Lancet Commission on Global Surgery. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRf8PbQgjGU&t=120s
